Roy Grinnell Obituary

Grinnell, Roy C.
Roy was happy everyday; he was strong in war and gentle to all he knew, a true member of the Greatest Generation. He passed away on April 21, 2014, 93 years old. He was a handsome Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force 318th Flight Squadron and participated in 40 combat missions during WW II as a bomber flight navigator and gunner stationed in North Africa. On a sunny day while sitting on a porch, Ethelyn McName of Jackson, MS, walked by. He called out and they were married on September 12, 1945 for 61 years. Lynn & Roy resided in Detroit, MI where Roy owned and operated "The Pouring Spot", a local bar where he was shot, pronounced dead, then revived. He was a fun man and enjoyed singing, which he did there for 30 years. While in Hilton Head, Roy sang as a member of the HH Barbour Shoppers for 10 years, volunteered, and created countless memories with his children and grandchildren. During his time in Scottsdale, AZ, Roy was true to his soul and was always kind in his words and actions until his last day. He loved everyone he met and will remain loved by all. Roy is survived by Cheri L. Grinnell, Aspen, CO, Lawrence R. Grinnell, Scottsdale, AZ, Douglas C. Grinnell, Columbus, OH,
along with six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A Memorial will be held at 2:00 PM on Sat., May 3rd in the Assisted Living Multi-Purpose Room at Vi at Grayhawk, 7501 E. Thompson Peak Parkway, reception to follow.
