DONALD WINSLOW MURRAY SR. HOLDEN - Donald Winslow Murray Sr., 64, passed away June 19, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 14, 1944, the son of Beatrice (Dorr) Murray and Arthur Westley Murray. Don graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1962. He worked 10 years at Brountas Restaurant as a chef, and then worked 26 years at J. J. Nissen Baking Co., retiring in 2000 due to failing health. Don built his home in 1970, with his Dad, and also built a camp, two garages and a penthouse with his family and friends. He met a lot of people in his job throughout the years and felt that everyone enriched his life. Don loved fishing and hunting and had his trophies on his wall. He won the Kiwanis Derby with a 12 pound 12 ounce togue caught in Beech Hill Pond, Otis. Don loved the Boston Celtics and the Red Sox, and didn't miss a game. He was active in North Brewer Cemetery Association, a member in the Ralph Pollard Masonic Lodge, Orrington, and Anah Shrine. He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 43 years, Jeanne Elice Murray; a son, Donald W. Murray Jr. and wife, Cathy (Stoddard) Murray, of Holden; two sisters, Beatrice Zimmerman and husband, A. Richard Zimmerman, of Racine, Wis., and Connie Hicks of Rapid City, S.D.; special friends, William Grant Jr. and partner, Phyllis Worthley, of Brewer; his faithful companion, Molley May, who followed him wherever he would go; several nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his mother, Beatrice (Dorr) Murray; and father and best friend, Arthur Westley Murray. Friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, June 23, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. If you would like to honor Don in a special way, give to the Shrine Hospital for Children, care of Anah Shrine, P.O. Jan & I only just learned of Donnie's passing this morning, and regret that we did not know in time to attend visiting hours and the funeral. We have been in PA attending to my recently deceased Mother's affairs.

Don was always there for you, both as a professional and a friend. I will miss our phone chats and catching up with the news. We worked together for many years and he was part of the family.

God Bless!

To the Murray family,
Don was one of my supervisors at J.J. Nissen when I worked out of the Medway branch. Don was always upbeat and taught me a ot about the business. Don was one of a kind-- he will be missed.

Don and Jeanne were the best of neighbors for over 32 years! Don and Mike shared hunting (getting the big one), fishing (that 12 lb. togue with Larry Woods) and snowmobiling as well as their love for their dogs (who were their family too). Don loved our annual Christmas get togethers and our shared birthdays and talked about them all year long. Happy Christmas, Don, you're the best and we're proud of you and all you stand for! Mike consider him a very special friend and we sure shared a lot of stories together.

To Jeanne, Don Jr.,...to my all who knew and loved my cousin, my heartfelt shock and grief at Don's passing. I am so thankful that I had a few minutes to spend with him at the Memorial Day services 3+ weeks ago at the North Brewer Cemetary
where both his dad and mine are laying in rest, and so regretful that Don and I never got to spend the time together in the last few years that we both intended to do. From his early years when I used to place Don on the handle bars of my bicycle and give him rides all around Eastern Ave. in Brewer until his death, Don was special to me as was his father and mine when they were alive. I have truly lost a part of myself in
Don's passing.

I was a patient in the hospital with Don twice. He was a nice man and was always in a good mood. He will be missed. God bless your family.

Mr. Murray will be greatly missed. He was loved by many and many loved him. He always welcomed people with open arms and had a laugh that was so genuine and true and he could always get people to smile and laugh right along with him. He gave so much and never asked for a thing in return. We want to express our deepest sympathy to the Mrs. Murray and the family. Our hearts go out to you at this time and in the days ahead. We are here for you, should you need anything. We will miss him deeply.
