I honor the memory of this outstanding and loving woman! She was key in my moving to the Northwest for a position in the Department of Continuing Education at WWU, which she headed and that move changed my life and that of my family. She may well have been in the same cities in post-war Germany at the same time that my parents and I were Polish refugees there. When we all met many years later, it was as if we were indeed family. Mary was so gracious to my parents and husband.
I learned how to be a bold networker from her. She was always connecting people and activities together and giving women especially opportunities they might not otherwise have had.
My life has been blessed by knowing her and I hold her in my heart always!

It's hard to believe that Mary has been gone for a year already. She was such a larger-than-life person in my life and for many others. I remember that she was a feminist who did not shy away from confronting the establishment, though at times it tired her out. She believed in the intelligence and talents of other women and led the way for the next generation. Mary was a visionary who also saw the future role of technology in education as a way to involve communities to share ideas across distances and explore possibilities. She was open and curious about people. And of course, she loved her poodles. I miss her. Thanks for the opportunity to share about her again. Eva McGinnis

Mary hired me to work with her at Western Washington University in 1980 and welcomed me and my family. She was my mentor for many years. She was a kind and very generous person with her time and great knowledge. I always admired her adventurous spirit and openness to people of all backgrounds. I didn't realize that she had passed away until today when the birthday card I sent her came back as "undeliverable". I'm so glad I found this site that gave me the answer I suspected. I am sad that she is no longer with us, but will always hold this remarkable woman in my heart.

I first met Mary during my university days in Lebanon where she was a family friend. I was happy to reconnect with her at WWU in Bellingham. She was a loyal friend, funny, warm and a great support to her friends and community.
She leaves behind many wonderful and heartwarming memories.

I had the great fortune to travel with Mary to Zimbabwe representing Whatcom Educational Credit Union. Over the years, Mary was a wonderful role model and very supportive of me as I established my career. Mary made her mark on the world and I was so lucky to have known her.
