Joseph J. Slaby, age 92, Army WWII Veteran of both European and Pacific theaters, beloved husband for 71 years of Stella (nee Wilkowski); loving father of Shirley (Marty) Weisenburger and Geraldine (Mike) Slattery; dear grandfather of Martin Weisenburger, Lauren and Allison Slattery; fond brother of Jean, the late Frank, Christine, Marion and Cecelia; uncle of Bernadette, Cathy, Conrad, Bob, Dan, Mari-Lyn, Mari-Ann, Fran, Eldra, Michael, Richard, Ralph, Christie, Ellen, Gloria, Bobby, the late Elden, Norman, Donald, David, Lawrence and Larry Jr. Joe was well known on the southwest side for 35 years as a building and remodeling carpenter/general contractor; and throughout metro Chicago entertaining as a master accordionist, known sometimes as the One Man Band. Member for decades of American Federation of Musicians-Chicago and Carpenters Union. Funeral Friday, 10:30 a.m. from Modell Funeral Home, 5725 S. Pulaski Rd., Chicago to St. Turibius Church, Mass 11 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Donations to Alzheimer's Association or American Music Therapy Association appreciated.
