John Smart Obituary

John ''Jack'' Edwin Smart, 86, of Naperville, passed away suddenly the morning of May 23, 2003. He was born in Denison, TX on Feb. 26, 1917 and moved to Naperville in 1989. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M, class of 1939. He served in WW II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was president of Barnes & Reinecke in Elk Grove Village, a design engineering firm. Jack was a member of the Naperville Heritage Society, the Society of Automotive Engineers and a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church. He enjoyed his home and family, traveling, working on his genealogy, the Naperville Municipal Band Concerts, and walking the Riverwalk. He was preceded in death by his father, Delor Frances Smart; his mother, Anna Nassoy Clark; and stepfather, William Clark; and his first wife, Marjorie Guyett Smart. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Barbara Davis Smart; his daughter, Martha Grubenhoff (Ken); grandsons, Joe (Cindy) and John Grubenhoff of Denver, CO; and stepchildren, Suzanne (William) Cassity of Georgetown, KY and Harlan (Terri) Davis of Warrenville, IL. He drew to his heart as his own, Jackie and Darrin Walts and as his grandchildren, Sarah and Nicholas of Huntington Beach, CA. A memorial Mass will take place on Wednesday, May 28 at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Church, Naperville, IL with a time of food and fellowship following the Mass. Interment of his cremains will be in Denver, CO. Memorials in Mr. Smart's name may be made to the Naperville Heritage Society, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville, IL 60540; the Naperville Municipal Band, P.O. Box 474, Naperville, IL 60566; Texas A&M University, Assoc. of Former Students, 505 Geroge Bush Dr., College Station, TX 77840-2918.
