Larry Friedlan

Another member of the Greatest Generation has passed away. Larry Friedlan, 97, of Loveland passed away on August 25, 2016 in Fort Collins, CO. Larry Friedlan was born March 12, 1919 in Ulysses, NE to Fred and Elise Friedlan. He was one of 14 children. Larry joined the United States Army in 1940 where he courageously served his country as a Combat Medic in WWII (Omaha Beach and Battle of the Bulge) and Korea. Larry married the love of his life, Maria, on July 27, 1948. They met at the officers club that Larry was managing during the Nuremberg Trials in Germany. Maria was a singer at the club. They were married 66 years when Maria passed away in 2014. After WWII, Larry and Maria moved to Torrington, WY where they owned a Pepsi Cola/Seven Up distributorship. In 1954 after Larry served in the Korean War, they moved to Estes Park where they operated the Chez Jay Cocktail lounge and the Jubilee nightclub. They moved to Columbus, NE in 1959 and owned a Steakhouse, Liquor Store and Coors Distributorship before moving to Loveland, CO in 1978 where Larry owned a liquor store and was a manager of the Elks Club. Most recently he owned Saddle Up Liquor in Fort Collins, CO. Larry is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by sons Larry (Halldis) Friedlan, Friedel Hess, his daughter Angi (David) Bartine, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Larry was a very generous man, patriotic and was well respected in the community. He will be sorely missed. A life well lived.
