ANNE WESTFALL Obituary

Anne Westfall, 82, of Northampton Road, passed away suddenly Wednesday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in St. Louis, MO, April 2, 1927, the daughter of Charles B. Westfall Sr. and Virginia Cornwall Westfall, she moved to Evanston, IL in 1941 and graduated from the Evanston Township High School, class of 1945. She later attended Northwestern University. Anne began a long career in retail sales and worked for Saks Fifth Avenue among other stores. She moved to the Amsterdam area in 1983 and assumed her father's health insurance business with the Downtown Amsterdam Association. Anne was an active member of the community, and served as president of the Business and Professional Women's Association. She was a member of the Festival of Trees Committee. She was on the board of the Amsterdam Free Library, was a member of the Friends of The Library, and she was founder of the "Amsterdam Reads" project. She also tutored in the Greater Amsterdam School District, a job that she truly loved because it enabled her to assist children to learn to read for a brighter future. Anne was a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Charles B. Westfall Jr. She leaves a sister-in-law, Joan Finch; her loving nephews and nieces, Charles, David, and William Westfall, Carolyn Finch, Nancy Winings, and Patty Haworth; grandnieces, grandnephews, and many dear friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, February 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street, Fr. John Medwid celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, February 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Since I am unable to attend I wanted to be sure that you know myself, and Joshua are thinking of you all. We know how much Aunt Anne meant to you and us. She was a great person and welcomed us into your family. I will miss getting to see her at "our" turn for Christmas. Many times Bill would call and talk to her and I would get a chance to speak with her also. She was always available for a good talk. I know Bill will miss that. I know she loved you all very much and would want you to remember all the good times and laughter you shared.

Anne and I were neighbors for many years and shared hours of good conversation and laughter on our walks together. She was a wonderful lady and friend. Please accept my deepest sympathies.
