Guido Martelli Obituary

Guido Rosario Martelli

Wilmington - Guido R. Martelli died Sunday, September 2 at the age of 94.

Affectionately know as Guido, Dad, Pop Pop, Uncle Guido and "the Guid," Guido was one of four children born to Bernardo and Angelina Martelli, who emigrated from Italy. He grew up in Toughkenamon, PA, graduated from Kennett Consolidated High School, and served in the US Army Air Corps. After WWII, he attended Drexel where he met the love of his life, Mary Isabel Lynch. They married in 1952 and raised nine children. He started work with the DuPont Company and left to enter the real estate industry. He formed his own company and began his next career as a custom home builder. After retiring, he enjoyed golf, flying and riding his motorcycle - making two Four Corners trips and was a proud member of the Blue Knights. He was a lifelong fan of both the Phillies and the Eagles. He loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his family, which grew to include 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. His greatest joy was to have his family visit and share a meal - making sure there were plenty of desserts.

He is survived by his wife Mary with whom he shared 66 years of marriage, his children Elizabeth, Mary (Jack), Dan (Liz), Eileen (Greg), Patricia (Will), Anne (Adam), David (Chu Feng), Joan (Mark) and Stephen (Angie), as well his sister Rose, his grandchildren Erin, David, Anthony, Daniel, Guido, Sean, Jessica, Nicholas, Natalie, Lucas, Peter, James, Isabella, Maggie, Patrick, Sam, and Gus, his great grandchildren Tyler, Ray, Ella, Emile, Lily, and Seddon, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Tony and Pete and his motorcycle buddy Harry.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
