CHARLES ORNDORFF

1928 - 2016

Charles Lee Orndorff, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed peacefully on December 21, 2016. Charlie was born in Los Angeles on July 25, 1928 to Lee H and Nellie Orndorff. Survived by wife, Patricia Orndorff, 3 children and 3 step-children, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren! Preceded in death by his first wife, Roseanne and son, Lee Orndorff. Charlie graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute and Texas College of Mines (UTEP), where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau and Alpha Chi. After serving in the Army, he returned to El Paso to his agency, Orndorff Insurance. After working 65 years in the insurance business, Charlie retired in 2014. Charlie was an active member of the Downtown Lions for 62 years, where he was a past president and drove their float in the Sun Bowl Parades. Charlie worked with the Marshalling Patrol for the Amigo Air Show and was a member of the Witness to War (WTW). He also volunteered at the Northeast Food Pantry. Charlie's great passion was flying radio controlled airplanes. Later, Charlie decided not to pilot planes, but he still enjoyed going out to the field and lending a helping hand with the El Paso Radio Controllers. A Memorial Service will be held at 9:00am on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Grace Presbyterian Church. Committal Service will follow at 11:00am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
