Jeremiah Sullivan Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of Jeremiah J. (Jerry/Dermot) Sullivan, 74, of West Hartford on Monday, January 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. To his adoring children he was "Pops" and the one and only "Pompom" to his grandchildren. Jeremiah was born in Millstreet, County Cork, Ireland, June 16, 1942 to Patrick and MaryAnne O'Sullivan. He moved to the U.S. as a young man where he met and married the love of his life, Kathleen (O'Neill) Sullivan on June 25, 1966. Jeremiah served in the U.S. Army. Jerry had two passions; working as a heavy equipment operator for 40 years and golfing. Jerry also worked at Asylum Hill Congregational Church as a security guard forming many solid friendships over the years. Predeceased by his father, Patrick O'Sullivan; mother, MaryAnne (Reardon) O'Sullivan; 5 brothers, Jack, Thomas, Dennis, Patrick, and Brendan; and 2 sisters, Joan and Noreen. Survived by his loving, devoted wife, Kathleen (O'Neill) Sullivan of 50 years. Jeremiah, aka "Pops" is lovingly remembered by his children Ann Marie Sullivan of Middletown, Patrick and Ada Sullivan of Rocky Hill, Margaret and Tracy Roane of Hartford, and Jeremiah J. Sullivan Jr. of New Britain. "Pops" you are the rock that guides our every step no matter the distance between us. Jeremiah aka "Pompom" is adored by his four amazing grandchildren, Katelyn, Patrick, Kayla, and Liam. We will always remember his strength, support, and words of encouragement as we continue on life's path. He is also survived by his brother Timothy O'Sullivan of Wethersfield; his sister, Mary Brigid (O'Sullivan) Lynch of Ireland, and many loving nieces and nephews. Jeremiah's life has ended, but his legacy of wisdom, integrity, and courage will go on forever! A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, January 21, at Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Ave. Hartford, CT. It was with stories of Hartford students that he found his passion for helping those in need. So, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Hands on Hartford-MANNA and Neighborhood Service 55 Bartholomew Ave. Hartford, CT 06106. (860-728-3201). The family of Jeremiah wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his doctors; Scola, Conway, Panico, and the amazing staff at Hartford Hospital Bliss Unit that so diligently and tenderly cared for our Pops! You, Pops, will always be missed! Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc. To send online condolences to the family, please visit www.ahernfuneralhome.com.

You were "Pops" to more than just your children. You could put is in stitches laughing on the golf course with simple two or three word comments. Sometimes making the players behind us have to wait for us to gain our composure. Christmas eve tradition with our families are memories that will live on forever and we will keep the tradition going. Rest easy Pops, we will take it from here.
