J.R. "Rod" Guest, 81, of Sarasota, FL passed away on April 6, 2016.
Rod was born in Hart County, Kentucky on April 17, 1934. Rod moved to Sarasota, FL in 1954. Rod served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Essex and the USS Currituck. Upon moving to Sarasota, Rod founded and ran Guest Well Drilling Co. for 45 years. Rod was also a Honorary Kentucky Colonel and a Shriner.
As an avid outdoorsman, Rod fished the professional B.A.S.S. Tournament Trail. He also sponsored the Guest Well Drilling Softball Team.
Rod is survived by his wife of 20 years, Mary, his son Tony Guest (Karen) of Bradenton, his daughters Tammy Guest of Orlando, Misty J. Franklin (Rob) of Sarasota, six grandchildren and one sister, Helen J. Howard of Orlando
A Memorial service, conducted by Dr. Joey Mimbs, is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at Bethel Baptist Church, 1805 30th Avenue W., Bradenton, FL, 34205. A "Remembrance Reception", with food, will be held afterwards at Bethel Baptist Church in their gym.
