Mary Wright Obituary

October 2 1906 - March 21 2005 Mary Catherine Key Wright more affectionately known as "Nanny" went home to be with the Lord at the age of 98. She was a retired school teacher and the widow of Joseph Clarence Wright. Nanny lived in Jackson all her life until this year. She lived over 25 years in her home as a widow and maintained her independence until declining health forced her to move into an apartment at the age of 95. She remained active and after attending a football game in Knoxville at the age of 95 Nanny was written up in the Jackson Sun as one of UT's oldest and most loyal fans. Her intense love for UT football was influenced by the fact that her son-in-law Eli Fly had a life long career at the University of Tennessee which culminated as president of the university. Nanny enjoyed attending years of piano and dance recitals numerous plays and events that involved her two great grandchildren from Jackson. She continued to work in her garden and canned fruits and vegetables the entire time she lived in her house in rural Madison County. She enjoyed traveling with her children and was even able to attend the Florida beach wedding of her grandson Brian Fly in October of this last year. Nanny is survived by two daughters Catherine K. Fly of Knoxville Judith M. Wright of Chicago; a son Joseph W. Wright Sr. of Germantown; eight grandchildren including Dr. Randy Fly formerly of Jackson; seven great grandchildren including Stephen and Anna Fly formerly of Jackson; five nieces and a sister Imogene Thomas of Jackson. Nanny was a gracious loving and sacrificial person. Everyone who met her considered her to be a delightful lady. She had a full life and was extremely blessed. Those of us who called her Nanny were blessed indeed! Friends of the family are invited to a celebration service that will be held at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Jackson on Saturday April 16 at 2:00 p.m. Canale Funeral Directors 901-452-6400
