Glenn Dorroh

DORROH Glenn Urey Jr., 79, died on Dec 28, 2013. He was born in Lexington, KY on June 30, 1934 to the late Glenn and Pearl Dorroh. He graduated from University High School in Lexington where he lettered in basketball, track and tennis. He was an avid tennis player from the age of 15. Upon graduation in 1952, he entered the University of Kentucky lettering in tennis for four years and earning a BA degree in Education in 1957. After graduation, he coached basketball at Burgin High School, taking them to the Regional Tournament for the first time in 20 years. He was offered the tennis coaching position at the University of Kentucky where he coached for two years and earned his Master's degree in Education. At this time, he accepted the teaching and basketball coaching position at Nicholas County High School in Carlisle, KY for 3 years. In 1962, he moved his family to San Diego, CA where he taught Physical Education at Lewis Junior High School until his retirement in 1991. Glenn served in the U. S. Army Reserves for 6 years and in 1963 he joined the San Diego Sheriff's Reserves in Search and Rescue and served for 14 years as a Lieutenant. He was a member of Shadow Mountain Community Church (FKA Scott Memorial Baptist Church) since 1962. Glenn is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Coons Dorroh; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Vicker (Bruce) of El Cajon; sons, Brooks Glenn Dorroh (Sue) of Ramona and David Lee Dorroh of Ramona; sister, Wilma Jean Ashbrook (Bill) and nieces Debra Adkins (Tom) and Pamela Stephenson (John). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Todd Morrison Dorroh. Visitation will be at Milward-Broadway, 159 North Broadway, Lexington, KY on January 4, 2014 from 10am to noon, followed by a private family graveside service at Lexington Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, California on January 18, 2014 at 10am In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Cancer Center or Shadow Mountain Community Church--Generations Campaign be made in his name. www.milwardfuneral.com
