Columbus, GA- Gerald "Wayne" Weems, 40, of Columbus, GA, died Monday, September 29, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, October 3, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Gene Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Weems was born August 12, 1974 in Columbus, GA, son of Arthur Gerald Weems and the late Barbara Smith Weems. He was an electrician for Tiya through Ft. Benning, GA . Mr. Weems was a loving husband and father who loved fishing and the University of Georgia Football.
Survivors other than his father include his wife of 11 years, Molly Norris Weems of Columbus, GA; daughter, Makenna Leigh-Anne Weems of Columbus, GA; sister, Gaylene McManus of Panama City, FL; brother, Arthur Mitchell Weems (Valerie) of Smiths Station, AL; uncles, R. B. Smith (Ruth) and Ray Travis Weems (Nora) both of Columbus, GA; father-in-law, Douglas Norris and his wife Patricia of Columbus, GA; mother-in-law, Barbara Barber of Columbus, GA; brothers-in-law, Mitchell Norris of Columbus, GA and Clay Norris of Carrollton, GA; step-brothers-in-law, Jason and Justin Harrell and Robert Gordon all of Columbus, GA; step-sister-in-law, Averi Faulk of Phenix City, AL; and numerous other family members and a host of friends.
Flowers will be accepted, but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to the Valley Rescue Mission, 2903 2nd Ave. Columbus, GA 31904 or contributions may be made to his daughter, Makenna Weems at the MEA Federal Credit Union.

It’s been 11 years without you Wayne. Not a day goes by that we don’t think about you. I have so many great memories that I will treasure always. Please tell your parents hello from us and give them our love. We miss yall! Makenna is doing so good. She reminds me of you everyday. That smile, the laughter and her jokes, her kindness, along with her stubbornness at times. She is such a really smart beautiful kid who loves Jesus and I know you’re so very proud of her. Wayne I honestly can’t believe it will be 10 years. Makenna and I miss you everyday. She is 13 going on 30. She’s definitely growing up way too fast. Makenna has your sense of humor. She is so funny and always making everyone laugh. I’m so proud of her and I know you are too! We talk about you all the time. Please continue to watch over us. Wayne, It’s son hard to believe that it’s been 9 years here without you. Not one day has gone by that we haven’t thought about you and wished you were still here with us. Life changes in a blink of an eye. Makenna and I talk about you all the time. She is doing well in school and in playing softball. I know you would be so very proud of her as I am. I wish you were here to watch her grow up but I know you are watching over her from heaven above. Makenna definitely has your personality and both of our attitudes but that’s alright. Wayne, It´s very hard to believe that it´s been 8 years without you. I wouldn´t want this for anyone though. Makenna and I have a conversation about you everyday. I wish you were here to see what a beautiful, smart, kind, and a funny girl she´s growing up to be. She reminds me of you so very much. Yes she has developed a love for softball and has become a great pitcher.She has worked so very hard and has come so far. I know you definitely would be so proud of her. She wants to play volleyball also but as of right now her plate is full so maybe next year she can try out. She is in the sixth grade now and is involved in chorus as well. You and Makenna both have always had a nice voice. Makenna has always wanted and has had a passion for singing. We love and miss you always! One day we will be together again my love. Wayne, Its been 5 long years since you went away. No one truly knows the grief you go thru unless they have gone thru it themselves. No time doesnt heal everything. It gets better but never goes away. Grief forces you to find out who matters, who never did, who wont anymore, and who always will. There hasnt been a day that has passed by that Makenna and I dont think of you. She is definitely your mini me for sure. You were the best husband, best friend and the best father to have.
