Henry zurBurg Obituary

Henry H. zurBurg Jr., 72, born December 27, 1935 in Detroit, MI to Henry, Sr. and Estelle (Apperson) zurBurg, passed away at home from cancer on September 12, 2008.

After 37 years, Henry retired as assistant chief of Michigan DNR Parks and Recreation. He worked for Petal Pushers (now Delta Flowers). Then he volunteered at the Delta Center School in third grade with Mrs. Mance and Mrs. Nurezo. After they retired, he moved to the school library and volunteered with Mrs. McBride. He worked at every Grand Ledge election since retiring. He volunteered his time assisting the elderly with their taxes through AARP.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lansing where he served on the memorial, endowment and finance committees. He graduated from MSU and was a season ticket holder for 27 years to men's basketball games. Many thanks to Red Cedar Oncology for their kindnesses.

Hank is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary, daughter Jane and granddaughter Katie, son Thomas (Debra) and their grandson Anthony Stidham; adopted family, Beth, Andrew (Jennifer) and Meredith Vanover; brother, Karl (Linda); sister, Roseann Rice; sister-in-law, Betty (Paul) Cudworth; brother-in-law, Tom Martin; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 - 2:00 p.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, 301 E. Jefferson St., Grand Ledge, with one hour of visitation prior to service. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Grand Ledge.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the food pantry at First Presbyterian Church of Lansing. www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

I have many fond memories of time spent with Hank and Mary. The tree swing in Bay City, camping trips to each new state park that Hank was assigned, parties at our home in Tawas, school, and church.
