Luther Love, Obituary

Luther Ross Love, Jr., passed away peacefully, embraced by love, while in the surroundings of family and friends on Aug. 10, 2010. Luther was born on May 28, 1946 in Bryn Mawr, Pa. to the proud parents of Luther Ross Love, Sr. and the late LaDoris Jenkins Love. A 1964 graduate of Yeadon High School in Yeadon, Pa., Ross attended Syracuse University, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Ross's 28-year career with Procter & Gamble, culminated as Vice President of Advertising. Ross founded Blue Chip Broadcasting in 1995, and grew it into a 20-station group across six mid-western cities. Ross was later inducted into the Greater Cincinnati Business Hall of Fame and honored by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce with the Great Living Cincinnatian award. Ross developed Blue Chip Enterprises, Inc., a company providing venture capital funding to African-American owned businesses. He initiated and co-chaired Cincinnati Community Action Now (CAN), the group convened to address a range of racial disparities following civil unrest in the City of Cincinnati in 2001. He was an active board member of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, the Minority Business Accelerator, The Community/Police Partnering Center, Success by Six, the Cincinnati Arts and Technology Center, Radio One, and Trustee of Syracuse University. Ross was also a member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Preceded in death by his mother, LaDoris Jenkins Love, Ross is survived by his endeared father Luther Ross Love, Sr. Leaving to morn his loss, but eternally grateful for the cherished memories are his wife of 41 years, Cheryl H. Love; son Jonathan R. (Germaine) Love; daughter Ayanna E. Love; brothers Randall J. (Crystal) Love; Steven R. (Vada) Love; Jonathan E. (Dorothea) Love; and sister Marsha L. (Les) Dickinson. Ross is survived by grandchildren Kennedy James and Marlaina, Jordan, and Joshua Love. Ross is survived by a host of loving aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins, and he also leaves behind many treasured friendships including Annette Turner; Ken and Rosa Blackwell and family; and Yolanda Webb. A public memorial service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010 at 5 p.m. at Crossroads Church, Cincinnati, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Greater Cincinnati United Way. Cards to the family may be sent to Thompson, Hall and Jordan Funeral Home, 11400 Winton Road, Forest Park, OH 45240.

Just heard about this loss. I hadn't seen Ross for more than 30 years, but we grew up together running up and down Providence Road in Yeadon, Pa. and playing baseball "down the field" at the end of Providence Rd. God Speed Ross, and condolences to the family
