Nancy Diefenderfer Obituary

Nancy Neale (Ross) Diefenderfer passed away on February 23, 2007 at St. Lukes Hospital in Bethlehem. She was born in Allentown on October 5, 1922 to Neil Allen Ross and Zetta Mae Ervin and moved to Fullerton in 1929. She attended Fullerton Public School and graduated from Whitehall High School in 1940 and from Mansfield University (Mansfield, Pa. ) in 1944 with a bachelor of science in home economics. She married Carson (Kit) Freyman Diefenderfer on July 1, 1944. A lifelong educator, Nancy taught in the school systems of Fawn Township, York County, of Baltimore, Md. and of the City of Allentown, retiring from Dieruff High School in 1984. She was a member of Midway Manor Moravian Church since 1955, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Through her memberships with the Bethlehem Womens Club, the AAUW, and the Ladies Sewing Society of Central Moravian Church, Nancy shared her energy, as well as her sewing talents with the community. Nancy was also a Girl Scouts Leader. Survivors: Kit, her husband of 62 Years; two daughters and their husbands, Elaine Diefenderfer and Tod Pontius of Austin, Texasand Caren Diefenderfer and David Robertson of Roanoke, Va.; five grandchildren, Pamela Pontius and her husband Gregory Rankin of Washington D.C., Elizabeth Pontius of Houston Texas, Nancy Pontius of Austin, and Mark and Joseph Robertson of Roanoke; nephew, Neil Ross and his wife Lounell, niece, Sandy Wells and her husband Bill; aunt, FloRilla and her cousins, Rowena, Vivian, Frank, Betty, Marian, FloRilla, and Martha. Services: The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at 11 a.m. at Midway Manor Moravian Church on 1201 North Ulster Street in Allentown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Online condolences may be made at www.longfuneralhome.com. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to Midway Manor Moravian Church; Mansfield University Foundation, Alumni House, Mansfield, PA 16933; or a charity of your choice.
