Ernest R. Allen

BATESVILLE — E.R. “Joe� Allen, 87, passed away Saturday evening, May 22, 2010, at the Rolling Hills Nursing Center. He was born on June 30, 1922, at Lorado to the late William and Chella Allen and lived most of his life in Jonesboro. He retired after 25 years with the Roger Miller Construction Co. in Jonesboro and was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. Joe excelled in athletics in his younger days. Joe is survived by one son, Tom E. Allen of Batesville; three grandsons, Todd and his wife, Dr. Julia Allen of Batesville, Jeff Allen of Dallas and Matthew Allen of Miami, Fla.; one granddaughter, Houston Elizabeth Allen of Batesville; two great-grandchildren, Katie Allen and Jack Allen; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosella Allen, and five brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Gunnels officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of the Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro. The family will receive friends from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Gregg Funeral Home.
