Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home - Montrose Obituary

Francis W. “Skip” Moniz of Little Meadows, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at the age of 92 after gallantly fighting Alzheimer for the past several years. He was born on June 10, 1928 in Tewksbury, MA to the late Eli and Blanche (Campbell) Moniz. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Norma Jean Moniz.

Skip, as he liked to be called by his family and friends, is survived by his children; Charles (Mindy) Moniz, Kathryn Bilka, and David (Val) Moniz; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great- grandson; and his brother Jimmy Moniz. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.

After high school, Skip joined the Army where he served in the 64th FA Battalion. He was stationed in Nara, Japan for a year. During his stint in the Army, Skip received a World War II Victory medal and an Army of Occupation medal Japan. Shortly after his discharge from the service, he met and married his beloved wife Norma Jean.

Skip was a grade foreman for a road construction company, which took him and his family throughout the Northeast. In 1972, he settled down and built a home in Little Meadows, PA, where he happily lived until having to move into Meadowview Nursing Home in Montrose, PA due to Alzheimer’s.

Skip was an avid NASCAR fan, with Dale Earnhardt Sr being his favorite driver. He liked playing golf and loved to tell the story about getting a "hole-in-one" at the Newark Valley Golf Course with his son Chuck. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a hard worker. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this year at the Vestal Elks Lodge.

I'm so sorry to hear about Uncle Skippy, as we called him. Always had a smile on his face! I wish I had been able to see him over the years. My thoughts are with Kathy, Chuck and David, along with all of the family at this difficult time. He was definitely one of my favorites! Rest In Peace.

Rest In Peace Skip, you were always a ray of sunshine when I ran into you at the store or other places in town. You always had a kind word or a joke to tell me. I loved your wicked sense of humor. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
