Not sure what to say?

I happened to think of George just now and that led me to learn of his death. He was my "shepherd" during my ordination process to become a priest in the Diocese of Chicago and I remember him for his exceptional kindness. His life, and his memory, are a blessing to many.

Dr. Giles probably saved my life, pulling me out of the poverty and Henry Horner housing projects in 1965 to participate in the UIC Upward Bound Program. He and Dr. Shulman actually came to our apartment on the ninth floor of building 2111 West Lake Street. I went on to earn both bachelor and master degrees. Sorry I did jnow keep you to know he was living in the Bay Area where I lived for years while employed at Stanford University, I am am author of several books and my next book...

Having shared my childhood with George all the way back to Garfield School in Hinsdale, I have fond memories of George and envy him for ending up in San Francisco where I lived briefly after college. I know he is missed by friends and family as he was such a good person.

George was my dearest close friend and I have missed him since we both moved from Chicago. His wonderful cooking and generosity with invitations to classical music concerts fed my body and soul. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

We are saddened to learn of George's passing and extend our condolences to his family and friends. As fellow contributors to the Grace Cathedral Organ Concert Series, we will miss his presence.

Dear Fred & Family:

I was sorry to hear about George's death. George and I went to school together probably from kindergarten through high school in Hinsdale. My maiden name is Rutherford. I was always very fond of George and loved seeing his picture in the obituary. I also didn't know he had been a professor at U of I in Chicago. My condolences to you and your family.

I was saddened and grieved to hear about George. He is still
missed by his Chicago friends, especially those at Church of
the Ascension.
