James H. "Jim" Shook, 77, Onawa, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2010 at Whiting Christian Church at Whiting, Iowa with Pastor Tom Scott and Dr. Emery Killian, officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery at Sioux City, Iowa with military honors conducted by the United States Air Force. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. James "Jim" Herbert Shook was born June 15, 1933 at Onawa, Iowa, the son of Herbert Andrew and Freda Mildred (Mathys) Shook. He was raised in Onawa and graduated from Onawa High School in 1951. He joined the United States Air Force and served four years during the Korean War. Jim and Sarah Ann Jobeun were united in marriage December 31, 1958 at Tekamah, Nebraska. They made their home in Onawa where they raised their two children, T.J. and Chris. Jim owned and operated Shook Independent Shop before realizing his true talent and love as a jeweler when he started Shook Jewelers. Jim had many interests and hobbies including hunting especially bow hunting, fishing and spending time on the computer. He was very talented musically and loved singing and playing his guitar. In recent years, he has shared his talent entertaining residents at Elmwood Care Centre at Onawa and Pleasant View Care Center at Whiting. He was baptized in 1968 at the First Christian Church at Onawa and was affiliated with Whiting Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Sarah of Onawa; a daughter, Theresa Jo Shook of Los Angeles, CA; a son Christopher James Shook and his significant other Leah M. Anderson of Sioux City, IA; two grandchildren, Emily Sarah Shook and Zachary Michael Shook; his siblings, Harold B. (Kay) Shook of Onawa, Patty (Norman) Huff of Blencoe, IA, Fred Shook of Onawa, Helen Peterson of Smithland, Leo Shook of Castana, IA and Rita Harris of Yankton, SD; a brother-in-law, Jim (Helen) Jobeun of Omaha and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law.
