Marie Jeanne Thibodeau Gentle

Nashville - Marie Jeanne Thibodeau Gentle, a recent resident of the The Blakeford in Green Hills, died on Tuesday May 12, 2020 at the age 96. Jeanne was born in Brunswick, Maine on July 20, 1923.

Jeanne was a member of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Incarnation Parish while a resident of Nashville and a former long term member of St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Birmingham, Al. where she was also served as a member of the St. Elizabeth Altar Sodality. She was a member of the University of Alabama Hospital Auxiliary in Birmingham, The Birmingham Museum of Art, The Amulet Club, as well as the Ashland Garden Club. A former avid golfer at the Vestavia Country Club, Jeanne proudly claimed two holes in one in her golfing career. Jeanne and Ed moved to Nashville in 2008 to be closer to their daughter Diane and her family.

Jeanne was well like and respected by everyone that she encountered. Her smile and personality endeared her to so many. She traveled the world with her husband, Ed Gentle (2013), and readily shared their stories and lessons learned. As the family matriarch, she continued to set the pace in recent years by remaining stylish and very kind and generous to those around her.

Preceded in death by her husband of 67 years; daughter, Patricia Gentle Rees; and son-in-law, William (Rocky) Rees.

Jeanne is survived by her five children, Reverend Judith Marie Gentle, Phd., Edgar Cuthbert Gentle, III, Atty. (Jo), Diane Francis Armistead (Steve), Paul Frederick Gentle, Phd., and Thomas William Gentle (Connie); eight grandchildren, Meghan Diane Rees, Ted Gentle, III, Samuel Gentle, MD (Mary), Winston Gentle, Duncan McDaniel (Lauren), Spencer McDaniel (Jessica), Patricia (Freddie) Ortiz, and Thomas William Gentle, Jr,; and three great grandchildren.
