Not sure what to say?

Michael, We miss you everyday. You were one of the finest musicians and kindest individuals we have every known. Your kind, modest,, gentle ways made a deep impression on everyone who met you. My son, Karl, said, at his high school graduation speech at Grace Church in Nutley, that he wanted to be "just like you." Talented, inspiring, musical and kind. I hope, wherever you are, you are surrounded by, and making beautiful music. Love, Nonie & Davie

Oh Michael, I think about you every time I hear a hymn well sung, every time I hear a beautiful organ solo, every time a church choir enunciates their ending consonants and arches their phrases. I think of you on Christmas Eve, having a bite to eat with us before rushing off to services. I think of you every time someone I meet is kind, gentle, excellent, full of integrity or humor. You live in my mind and heart, now and always. ~Nonie

I am so sorry that we have lost this gifted, kind musician.

Michael was a window to a more beautiful life. He surrounded himself with music; engulfing listeners; whisking them away for a moment, to consider something else, a lesson about a better life. I can't fathom enjoying a single musical note without giving thanks to him for opening my eyes to something that was there, lost over the many years but certainly found for the remainder of my life. He left this place a little better I think. He left his love in all our hearts. Michael always...

Mike grew up across the street from my family. Those were the days when everyone in the neighborhood was family. We all spent a lot of time together. He also played at my wedding. My deep sympathy goes to the families affected by his passing.Dee Williford Ferris

Mike was a man who saw God in music and taught others to appreciate the value and meaning of his efforts. His music was a major part of his life. We will never forget him at First United Methodist Church in Newport News, VA. He was a real fighter and never gave up in his quest to beat his years of fighting cancer.. We all loved Mike and send our love and prayers to his family and friends. May he rest in peace in the arms of his Lord.

Michael always encouraged us to sing our very best, to deliver God's word through the music he so loved and guided us through. We will always remember his gentle, yet disciplined nature. Prayers of love to his family from our First United Methodist Church family. May your memory live on in all of our lives.

Mike and I were fraternity brothers at ODU in the 1970's. While we haven't seen one another for many years now, I remember Michael as incredibly talented, a kind and gentle soul. May his memory be eternal. In ZAX, Kelly Haupt SI68
