News Death Notice

KENT, Michael George Age 42 of Dayton, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at OSU Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his father, James B. Kent I in 2014. He is survived by his children: Noah Kent (Laurie), Grace Kent and Lilia Kent. His mother, Margarita McDonald de Kent, also survives him, as do a brother, James B. Kent II and wife Sheryl, and two sisters; Michelle Kent and Jacqueline Kent Griffin... and Ryan. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews and many relatives in the US and Panama, as well as his first grandchild, who is "on the way". Mike was a 1992 graduate of Beavercreek High School and a founding partner of the former Kent Development Group. He was the owner of MGK Construction & Restoration. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Luke Catholic Church, 1440 N. Fairfield Rd. Beavercreek, OH 45432 on Saturday morning, July 23, 2016 at 10 AM with Fr. Terry Schneider, Celebrant. Friends may call on Saturday evening, July 23, 2016 at the Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia rd. from 5-8 PM to share remembrances of Mike with his family. Contributions can be made to either: the American Cancer Society or the MGK Trust (in support of his children) c/o Jackie Griffin, 1963 Malcom Dr. Kettering OH 45420 in Mike's memory. We were saddened to hear of Mikes passing. We remember him as a wonderful neighbor always willing to lend a hand, his beautiful blue eyes and infectious smile. He was always happy doing a project on his house back years ago on Caton. A wonderful father and a kind soul. We are so sorry for your loss.

I just found out today of Mike's passing. Needless to say, I was devastated. Such a sweet smile and jovial spirit - he was always so easy going. He was a neighbor, friend and my contractor who built my garage, deck and helped with other projects around my old house. I will always think fondly of him. A life cut too short. My prayers to his family.

Mike & I worked on many projects together & became great friends. His craftsmanship & artistry was unmatched. The stain glass window was designed by Mike to represent his fight with Leukemia & is in one our last big projects tighter in South Park....he left his mark everywhere. We've lost a beautiful & mischievous soul! He will be loved & remembered forever!

I moved into my totally rehabbed home in South Park in June, 2011. Kent Development had done an incredible job, and I soon became friends with Mike and a small eclectic circle of people who had a part in my finding and buying my little cottage. We remain friends to this day and regularly enjoy birthday dinners together. We will miss you Michael and those beautiful azure eyes, infectious laugh and your inimitable talent and spirit.

I was blessed to get to know Mike in grade school at St. Luke. He was a very bright and talented person. His talents were far reaching, from mathematics and design (that back-yard halfpipe) to sticking up for the less popular kid (he knew he had influence and a leader uses that influence to benefit others).
