Robert Hall

Bob Hall was my sponsor in AA from 1989 until his death. His friendship and good counsel were very important to me. I miss him and think of him often. He showed me that I could engage in politics and law with ethics and civility. As a loyal Ralph Yarborough Democrat, Bob stood for human dignity, especially poor people and victims of racial discrimination. Among is great admirers was my friend Sissy Farenthold.

Relaxed, thoughtful, inquisitive, caring, smiling, prepared, honorable, lawyer, Democrat are among the traits describing Bob that come to mind as I am remembering him fondly this morning. I experienced all of these qualities each time I met Bob in the courtroom or on the campaign trail.

I talked to Bob almost daily during a difficult time in my life. I'll always treasure his gentle wisdom and patience.

About my correcting an embarrassing mistake, "What do you do when you throw a paper at the can and miss?"

That made it easier for me to make a difficult amend that I owed. "Promptly."

Bob and I shared an admiration for my uncle, Senator Ralph Yarborough. However once when I was an Assistant DA Bob and I spent a full morning in Court negotiating disposition of a difficult case involving his client. Neither he nor I mentioned our mutual relationship with my Uncle Ralph.He knew and I knew but he never brought up that point...

A true blue, yellow dog liberal Democrat, Bob will be in the Ralph W. Yarborough section of heaven. For 28 years he sponsored me on the road of happy destiny. I am profoundly grateful. -- Terry O'
