Not sure what to say?

Teddi; I was saddened to hear of your father's passing. There was never a time in my public education in which your dad was not a major part. From first grade music class (we had two books of songs) to "challenges" for chairs in 6th grade band, to having Clarence Twilwell abruptly removed from the PVL airways for a parody that today would never be noticed. Because your father had been a close friend of my uncle Izzy, I heard a lot of stories about his music and their exploits during the big...

I was privileged to be a member of the first graduating class of Port Vue-Liberty High School. Dr. Piatt was our principal, a learned man who cared deeply about all the students under his leadership and not just because his daughter Teddie was a classmate. He fully immersed himself into the school environment, choosing not to remain hidden and unseen behind those sometimes dreaded administration doors. As if roaming the halls was not enough,I remember him welcoming us every morning over the...

Your father was instrumental in getting me an elementary teaching position at South Allegheny School District. I had graduated with a degree in secondary ed-French and could not find a job in that area. He suggested that I contact the state to determine if I could be issued an emergency certificate so that I could teach while I would continue to work on an elementary credential. Obviously it worked since I continued to work there for seven years while he was supervisor of elementary ed. ...

Dr. Piatt was one of the most influential and memorable of my teachers. He was kind, generous, always smiling, thoughtful--and he truly cared about us kids. Back in PV Jr High, 1952-1955, Dr. Piatt understood how much I wanted to play in our band but my mother couldn't afford to buy me an instrument. Dr. Piatt found an old trumpet, a little dented but still wonderful, and gave it to me at no cost. I still have it!! It's one of my most treasured possessions. I could go on and on about...

Dr Piatt was the first teacher I encounter when I entered PVL. I had attended St Joseph's Catholic school. I was so nervous and I was lost in the coridors of Romine school and could not find my first class. he personally escorted me to my first class. He smiled and spoke kindly to ease my fears. For the next 4 years he always greeted me by name. 47 years later I still remember his kindess. His goal was always to give us the best possible education possible. I remember few of the teachers...

I'll always remember you as my first music teacher and the one who generated an interest in music which has remained with me to this day. You were also the friendly neighbor living across the street in Port Vue. Many thanks.

South Allegheny staunch and true,
As stately as the pine tree.
We'll always think of Gold and Blue,
Right after God and Country.
Hail to thee dear alma mater,
Loyalty we pledge to you.
South Allegheny everlasting,
Alma mater Gold and Blue.

Thank you Dr. Piatt for using your musical talent to write an unforgettable alma mater beyond compare.
May God Bless and keep you!
