Sue Martin Obituary

Sue (Walker) Martin
1930-2015
Sue (Walker) Martin, 85, passed away Dec. 3 in Clear Lake City after a long illness. Born in Lincoln, Neb., March 13, 1930, she and her husband, Richard "Dick" Martin raised four devoted children. Mom was an active volunteer at Bayshore Medical Center throughout the 70s and the early 80s. When her children were grown, she began working at San Jacinto College, eventually becoming the executive assistant to the college president.
Mom loved her family deeply, especially spending time and playing games with her grandchildren. She was an avid bridge player and until recently could be found at a bridge table playing twice a week.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband to whom she was married more than 50 years and is survived by her four children: daughter Vicky Wheeler; sons Michael and his wife Bonnie; David and his wife Elizabeth; and John and his fiancé Deborah Brown; eight grandchildren; her brother Steve Fiedler and his family; and her cat April.
Mom received loving care from her daughter Vicky over the final year of her life and for that we want to pay special tribute and will always be grateful to our sister. Vicky gave 1000% and was unflinchingly by Mom's side through the worst of times. Mom was deeply appreciative of all Vicky did every day.
A memorial service will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 18220 Upper Bay Rd. Houston, TX 77058 at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Gloria Dei.
Thank you Mom for the love you gave us, the lessons you taught us and the example you set for us. We love you and will miss you.

I have had a bad feeling for about two to three years now that Sue's health might be in jeopardy. But, I didn't know who or where to call to check on her. At one time in history, October 1968 to May of 1970, Sue was like a foster mother to me because Sue's daughter Vicky and I were dating during that time and I got to see this Martin family usually five days per week then. Even after Vicky and I broke up in May, 1970 I still kept in touch with the Martin Family over the phone, and usually through Sue. The last phone conversation that I think I can remember having with her was during Thanksgiving week 2012. Sue had known my mother and she also knew that my mother had been very I'll since the summer of 2005. Sue also knew that I was my mother's primary "care giver" until her death in January 2012. So, often times Sue would call me first to see what nature of prayers that my mother needed. Sue would often have a written plan made out about what I should do next for my mother. And Sue's suggestions were always correct and appreciated by me.
I knew that I would deeply grieve the day that I found out that Sue was suffering or that she had passed away. And because since the end of 2012 I did not find a way (until this very day) to keep in touch with Vicky about her mother I now suddenly discover the loss of this wonderful, witty, loving, kind, caring, intelligent and beautiful woman who was never afraid to speak her mind.
May the Lord richly love and bless Vicky, her daughter, Vicky's three brothers, her nieces, nephews and the extended Martin family members. With my heartfelt love for you all.

Sue, Dick, Bob and I had a wonderful time when we went to Alaska together. It gave me a chance to get to know this beloved cousin of Bob. The Walker cousins were/are a special bunch. Thanks for sharing the obituary this way. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Such a beautiful lady and she will be missed. I still really miss working with Dick. What a great couple and now they are together for eternity as it should be.
