THOMAS "TOM" HILLIARY SHIELDS JR., AGE 91 LAKE PROVIDENCE, LOUISIANA Cox Funeral Home Lake Providence, Louisiana Funeral services for Thomas "Tom" Hilliary Shields Jr., age 91, of Lake Providence, Louisiana will be 1:00PM, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lake Providence with Father Mark Watson officiating. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00AM until time of service at the church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Roby Shields; grandson, Bart Shields; great-grandchild, Rheagan Shields; parents, Thomas Hilliary Shields and Katherine Harned Shields; brother, Butch Shields; sister, Carolyn Fair. Mr. Tom Shields was a graduate of Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Kentucky. He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy on the USS Alabama and during the Korean War on the USS Bon Homme Richard. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lake Providence. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served his community as a Police Juror for East Carroll Parish, also as Justice of Peace. He served on many boards, the ASCS Board, First National Bank Board, East Carroll Parish Library Board, and the Byerly House Board of Directors. He loved his family, church, and community. Tom is survived by his daughter, Kitty Shields of Houston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Shields III and Karen Shields of Iowa, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Roby Shields and Lee Shields of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Harry Shields and Jere Shields of Thibodaux, Louisiana; son, Ted Shields of Bardstown, Kentucky; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Ann Hahn and husband Virgil of Tyler, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, P.O. Box 351, Lake Providence, LA 71254 or to the USS Alabama Battleship Foundation, P.O. Box 65, Mobile, Alabama 36601.
