Timothy Wagner Obituary

Published by D. O. McComb and Sons - Pine Valley on Aug. 3, 2016.
Timothy J. Wagner passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016. Born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Tim moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana when he was 9 years old. He attended Bishop Dwenger High School, graduating in 1971. He briefly attended Indiana University where he was fond of saying he made the Dean's list…not the honors list, but the one where they ask you not to come back! He refocused, transferred to Purdue University and graduated With Distinction and a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1976. He obtained his Professional Engineer's license in 1980. Tim started his career working for Paul Hosler Company from 1977 to 1981, and Shambaugh and Son from 1981 to 1992 when he and Denny Meinert established Wagner-Meinert, LLC, an Industrial Refrigeration and Food Process Engineering and Contracting Company. For 24 Years Tim was instrumental in fostering a culture at WMI built on trust, treating people well and "doing the right thing." Professionally, he was proud of what the WMI team built and what they accomplished together. He was never a boss, always a leader, and always referred to "working with team members", instead of people working "for him". Tim was the epitome of a humble leader. He felt very blessed with the family he was given and always wanted to help those who weren't "dealt such a great hand," especially children. Of all his community involvement, his years on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters Northeast Indiana were the most personally rewarding. On June 28th at the Big Brothers Big Sisters National Conference in Orlando, he was honored with the Clifford P. Norman Service award, which is a National Award given to a Board Member who exemplifies the qualities of commitment and generosity. In sharing his time, talents and treasures, he also served on the St. Jude Parish Council, and the Board of Directors of St. Anne Home and Retirement Community. Tim was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Legatus. His Professional memberships included: the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration; Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association; and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. Tim's Professional and volunteer roles were superseded only by his role as a family man. His greatest source of joy was being a devoted husband to his bride of 41 years, Karen whom Tim referred to as his Queen. Their partnership will remain the gold standard for marriage by all who know them. He was a devoted Dad to: Joe Wagner, Emily (Thomas) Johnson, and Susie (Joel) Rogers; and loving Bopa to his grandchildren, Grace, George and Gus Wagner; Mina, Finn and Fitz Johnson; and Lucy Rogers. His children and grandchildren will miss his guidance, enthusiasm and cheerleading. In addition to Karen and their children and grandchildren, Tim is survived by his brothers: Tom (Jeanne) Wagner, Terry (Yvonne) Wagner, and Tony (Elaine) Wagner; sisters Tammy (Bob) Warner, Tracy (Phil) Roach and Trudy (Brandon) Landers, as well as Karen's siblings Mark (Rosemarie) Schenkel, Bob (Laura) Schenkel, Steve (Libby) Schenkel, Anne (Jim) Casteen, and many nieces and nephews. Tim was preceded in death by his parents Tony & Shirley and brother Teddy. Tim will be remembered for his optimism, his commitment to always doing the right thing, his life changing mentoring and generosity, and his tremendous humility. He was simply everybody's "favorite." Memorial Donations may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana and the Anthony & Shirley Wagner Scholarship Fund at Bishop Dwenger High School. The best way to truly honor Tim is to mentor a child or change a life for the better. Calling at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Rd on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. Karen and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your loss is also our loss, I have many fond memories of time spent with Tim. Tim was great to deal with and treated me as an equal when I asked questions about refrigeration. He did many good things for our refrigeration system at Food Marketing.
Tim was honest, accomodating and employed many great employees who were great to work with. A tribute to his dedication to employees and customers alike.
I considered him a friend and a "go to" guy when I needed help or had questions.

To Emily and the entire Wagner Family,
I was so sad to hear of your dad's passing. I have many fond memories of visiting at the lake and sleepovers at your house - I still remember wrapping all of the Christmas presents for WMI one year in your basement and how Mr. Wagner showed us the most efficient way of completing the job. He was very kind and patient with us - and always had a smile and funny story to share. You are all in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
With sincere and deepest sympathy,
Nika

Dear Karen and family, I have known Tim since my early days at Edy's Ice Cream. We got to know each other there and he always had a warm smile when we greeted each other when he visited the plant. I'm thankful for the opportunity Tim gave me to work for WMI. I learned so much! He will be missed.

Karen & Family -- it is with great sadness that we send you our sympathies and prayers on Tim's passing. He was a great guy, which you know. Tom so enjoyed his leadership at WMI and will treasure those memories as will our sons and the WMI summer family outings at the ball field! He touched so many lives and his memory will live on. May God be with you during this difficult time and may his loving arms surround you and give you comfort.

Very sad news to receive, and at the same time I can smile at the memories. Tim and I only meet may once a year at best, but over the 30 or so year I have known Tim, it was always like we had just talked yesterday. He was such an easy person to talk with. I always appreciated his honesty, integrity, and earnest effort to do the best and right things.

It was always apparent that Tim cared deeply for his family and his business associates-friends. His values and character are reflected in both.

My prayer is that all those who know and love Tim will be comforted in knowing that we have the promise of life everlasting, through Christ Jesus. It is only a turn of the page.

May you find peace my friend and be wrapped in the loving arms of our Lord.

Karen and family,
I can not put into words the sadness that my heart feels for you and your family. Tim was an amazing man and has blessed Todd and I in so many ways. Todd would not be where he is today both professionally or in life without Tim. Tim pushed Todd to be the project manager and WMI worker that he knew he could be. He also pushed him to learn how to put God and family ahead of work. He would tell Todd, "always call your wife your bride and treat her as you did the day that you married her". God truly blessed us all for having Tim in our lives.

Love

I was the Sales Manager for major refrigeration manufacturer. Every time I visited Tim (and his entire crew) he always had nice things to say even though other words could have been inserted. Well respected in the industry! Always a pleasure to talk to and go out and have lunch or dinner with. Truly a great leader and overall just a nice guy. We will miss you Tim! Say HI to my dad Tony up there!!
Thanks Tim!
