Newport, NH-Valitia V. (Briscoe) Doolan, 89, of Pinnacle Road, Newport, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 at The Clough Center in New London.
She was born on June 3, 1914 in Warrington, England the daughter of William and Jane (Walder) Briscoe.
She attended Georgian Court in NJ and then graduated from Mount St. Mary's in Hooksett. Mrs. Doolan came to the US when she was 10 years old and lived on Blaisdell Lake in the Sutton area for years before moving to Newport in 1940. She owned and operated a beauty salon named Curl Corner on Blaisdell Lake. Mrs. Doolan also worked in the healthcare profession. She was a fine musician playing the violin and piano and enjoyed traveling. Etiquette was important to her and she always tried to show good manners. Mrs. Doolan was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Doolan in 1967.
She was also predeceased by a grandson, Marc Geoffrion in 1992 and three brothers, Valentine and Edward Briscoe in 1914 and William West, Jr. in 1971. Members of her family surviving include two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Moe Geoffrion of South Sutton, NH and Sheila and Kevin Spencer of Summerfield, FL; two granddaughters, Nancy G. Barstow and her husband, Chris of Standish, ME and Stacey Spencer and her fiance, Kevin McLean of Locust Grove, GA; two nieces and a dear friend, Bethann McDaniels of Thetford, VT.
A mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima, 724 Main Street, New London, NH with The Rev. Robert Biron, pastor, celebrant. Burial will be in Sunny Plain Cemetery, Bradford, NH. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, P.O. Box 2209, New London, NH 03257.
