WANDA FINNESTAD

Wanda L. (Shryock) Finnestad, the daughter of Noris and Gladys (Harding) Shryock, was born September 3, 1934, in Oblong, Illinois. She passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Heritage Home in Bancroft, Iowa, at the age of 78. On February 3, 1952, Wanda was united in marriage to William Finnestad at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Ringsted where they began raising their family and owned and operated Bill and Wanda's Tavern. Wanda was also employed as a nurse aide and rehabilitation aide. Bill died in 1985. Wanda enjoyed playing bridge with friends, going to the races, family vacations and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Wanda was a member of United Lutheran Church in Ringsted. She was also a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rodney Finnestad and Lori Mortenson; Catherine Wikert and Keith Schnell; Karen Witte and her husband Larry all of Ringsted; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Ray Shryock of Estherville; Opal Kabrick and her husband, Ordean of Lone Rock, Iowa; brother-in-law, Roger Petersen of Greeley, Colorado; and sisters-in-law, Nancy Shryock of Graettinger, Iowa; Dawn Shryock of Estherville. Surviving sisters-in-law from Bill's family, Phyllis Finnestad (Mark, deceased) from St. Paul, Minnesota; Brenda Potratz (Roger) of Spencer, Iowa; Diane Finnestad (David, deceased) of Mesa, Arizona; Lois Wasson (Jeff) of Cohutta, Georgia; Marlys Finnestad of Algona and a host of many loving nieces, nephews and long time friends. She has been preceded in death by her husband, parents, three grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Walker; Virginia Tonderum and Marty Petersen; and three brothers, Raulin, Kenny and Bob Shryock.
