William G. Coran

William G. Coran, 85, retired steam-fitter and welder and resident of Williamsport, TN, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Signature Health Care of Columbia, TN.Previously, he was a 40-year resident of Lee Avenue in North Tonawanda, NY. Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Ernest Russell Coran and Mary Roberta McCray Coran. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge and Local #22 Steam-fitters and Plumbers Union in Orchard Park, New York. William was preceded in death by his loving son, Michael Coran; son-in-law, David Der, Brother Gifford; sisters, Minnie and Violet; brother, Herbert McCray; sister-in-law, Rose.Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Esther Jane Kartyas Coran of Williamsport, TN; daughters, Candace Coran, Pamela (David) Der, Laurie (Mark) Reber, sons, David (Gerri) Coran, Patrick Coran, Timothy (Sue) Coran, Terry Coran, Alan Coran, Kevin (Theresa) Coran; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother of Calvin (the late Rose), the late Gifford, Russell (Helen), and the late Herbert McCray, Wanda, the late Minnie (Don), the late Violet (Michael).Friends may call Saturday from 9 - 10 AM at the Wattengel Funeral Home, 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, NY.
