HARRIET MANN Obituary

MANN--Harriet,

nee Brechner, of New York City, passed away on March 13, 2015 with George, her beloved husband of 65 years by her side. Harriet was a force of nature, living a full and powerfully vibrant and exceptional life. Loving mother to Andy (Kathy), Richard (Lisa), Steven (Stephanie) and Thomas (Melissa). Proud grandmother to Ethan, Grace, Max and Aiden. Harriet had a special place in her heart for her dear Stefania, Max and Olivia Girombelli. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Rhea and Dan Brechner on May 12, 1928, Harriet found joy in her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and dear friends. Harriet lived her life on the move. Walking (really fast!) everywhere, exercising, laughing and traveling. Harriet loved good food, wine, theater, music and anything beautiful. A special celebration of Harriet's life will be announced in the near future.

Not beeing cheerfully greated by Harriet calling me by my name at the Gym is just one of the things I miss about not having Harriet around anymore. She was amazing (how she hurried at the E 85th Street Equinox a the end of body conditioning classes to make it on time to spinning!) and is leaving a huge space behind. R.I.P. Harriet!

My sincere condolences to Harriet's family. I too knew her from the gym where we shared many life stories, art stories, and laughs. She was an elegant individual. I will miss her terribly.

I knew Harriet from Equinox Fitness and she truly was an inspiration to everyone around her. She knew my name and always had a cheerful hello and wanted to know about my week. Everyone at Equinox knew her and marveled at her energy and her enthusiasm. She was a fixture at the health club and will be missed.

There are truly no words to describe the impact that dear Harriet had on my life and everyone's lives who were lucky enough to know her. I feel blessed to have been her friend and lost to not be able to see her again. She is the definition of beauty, inside and out. Forever missed and never forgotten.

As many know, Harriet was the Matriarch of Equinox 85th St, she rarely missed a day at the gym -- we often called her the Mayor! -- for me personally, she was more than just a friend, she was like a surrogate mother, especially when I lost my own. Harriet was always encouraging me and guiding me, with her beautiful smile! Harriet was an inspiration to all that knew her. She is loved by so many and will be missed and remembered by so many. My heartfelt condolences to her loving and devoted husband George, and her entire family -(that she talked about all the time.) I know the void must feel huge but I hope with time, you will all find solace from all the wonderful memories made throughout the years. (I had bumped into Harriet and George in the street one early evening and couldn't resist taking this photo -- they looked so smashing!!
