ROBERTA SANDERS Obituary

SANDERS --Roberta Joan (Frost) beloved wife of Morton Sanders for 66 years, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2014. She was 86. She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Sklar Robinson, and brother Dr. John Marshall Frost. She was the daughter of the late Anna and Dr. Maxwell Frost. In addition to her husband, Roberta is survived by sister in law Sylvia Suzowsky Idelson of South Carolina, sons Michael (Sally) of Chester, CT, James (Holly Bussey) of Yardley, PA, and daughter Janet Bunnell (Kevin) of Owego, NY, grandchildren Matthew Sanders, Zachary Sanders, Chelsea (Jason) Donlin, Benjamin Bunnell, Bryan (Celia) Bunnell and great grandson Jackson Donlin. Special appreciation goes to her loving caregivers. She was born and raised in New York City. Bobbie and Mort raised their family in Merrick, NY, where she was a resident for over 40 years and where she was active in many civic and community activities including serving on the District 25 and CHSD #3 boards of education. Roberta returned to school to complete her education and received her degree from Hofstra University in 1970, after which she taught for 20 years and retired from the Long Beach, NY school district in 1990. Her creativity and love of learning was shared with her many students over the years. In retirement she moved back to Manhattan but continued her passion for learning and became an accomplished sculptor and jewelry artisan. Contributions in Roberta's memory can be made to the American Lung Association www.lung.org The 92 Street Y www.92y.org or a charity of your choosing. There will be a Celebration of Life at their home. Funeral will be private.
