Age 63, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019, and survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Murray Thompson. A Pittsburgh native, John was born on August 5, 1955, at St. Clair Hospital to the late John Frederick Thompson Sr. and Katy K. Thompson of Mt. Lebanon, PA. Also, brother to Jeff (Jocelyn) Thompson and Jamie (LuAnn) Thompson. John was a graduate of Upper St Clair High School, then attended West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he met Kim Murray, his blushing bride of 40 years. John was father to three adoring daughters, Beth (Brad) Grealy, Christie (Chad) Jones, Laura (John) Engel; and "Opa" to five grandchildren whose lives will forever be enriched by his imaginative bedtime stories, his well-timed jokes, adventures at his home away from home Pike Run Country Club, and his unique ability to turn any ordinary activity into an awe-inspiring journey. John was Vice President of Construction for A.R. Building, and Partner of Brooks & Blair Homes. As a lifelong home developer, John's vision can be seen in the communities he created, such as Hill Station Manor, The River's Edge of Oakmont, and others. Those who were touched by John are invited to reminisce, grieve, laugh and share stories with his family at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 2040 Washington Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15241. A Receiving Line will be held in the Memorial Parlor at 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2-5 p.m., on Thursday, February 14, 2019. The Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, February 15, 2019 with a light lunch to follow at Valley Brook Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greater Washington County Food Bank, 909 National Pike, West Brownsville, PA 15417. Please add tributes at beinhauer.com

John has been a good and true friend for so many years, from our kindergarten days in the Cypress/Ruthfred hood to our more recent reunions on my visits back to town. He saw every moment as an adventure, an opportunity for fun and sometimes a little mischief. I will always remember listening to scratchy rock records in John's bedroom, sleepovers on the porch on balmy summer nights, midnight rides around Johnson School on our sting rays, cruising the South Park pizza joints, paint fights in art class (John always won), whacking weeds and waving at cars on the road crew, and learning how to be working stiffs in the real world at Shadyside. Rest in peace, my friend, your spirit will shine on.

Dear Kim,
I'm so sorry to hear about JT. I worked under him several years ago at A.R. I'm grateful for the opportunity I had to work with him and to learn from him. He always had a smile and was very encouraging and supportive. I'm so sorry for your families loss. I'll be praying God's peace and comfort for you and your family.

The adjectives are endless in describing John! He brought a warm and enthusiastic smile to every room he entered. He was a terrific example of a loving husband, father and grandfather! It only took one meeting with John to consider him a friend and someone you would like to spend time with! Anyone that knew John will miss him and treasure the privilege of knowing him.

JT was the perfect Boss! Stern, but a great sense of humor. He treated us like family and always listened to our needs and suggestions. We always strived to make him proud and get the job done. He will be missed at our Tuesday employee meetings and we will miss seeing him ride through The Rivers Edge in his silver Rover.
May God watch over his family.
