Charles Sherwood Obituary

Sherwood, Charles V.

At 95 plus years my death is certainly no tragedy, but for the record a few details are appropriate. I was born on a farm in upstate New York. I had an older brother Wiley. He died several years ago. My father died when we were young and we moved to St. Louis, Mo. where we went to high school. We lived there with my mother and grandmother. We were fortunate enough to come back east and attend Renesslear Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. A generous uncle made possible for my brother and my college attendance. I managed to get a degree in mechanical engineering and then married a nurse. Dorothy and I were married for 62 years when she passed away. We had two children, Lynn and Richard. We were a typical American family. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Junior Achievement, etc. Lynn is a psychiatric nurse and completed her career as a hospice nurse. Richard spent more than 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and managed to get a masters degree. Both children to be proud of. Since my wife died several years ago I was lucky enough to become acquainted with a lady across the street. Charlotte is a widow with grown children. Although we have remained across the street from each other our lives are closely intertwined. I cared for her deeply and consider myself to have been a lucky man, two wonderful women in my life. I made a living at several firms finally retiring from Link in Kirkwood. I had no great athletic ability but sure played a lot of golf and enjoyed the game and the friends I played with. I ended up with four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. See ya, Charlie.

I was such a lucky little girl to spend my elementary school years living so close to grandparents. I have been overwhelmed this last week with amazing memories of my sweet grandpa. He had an impact on my life in so many ways. The world would be a much better place if more men were like my Grandpa Charlie!!! Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for our family......

Didn't know Charlie, but based on his obituary he certainly was a great gentleman who lived a good life. In the scope of life, who could ask for anything more. Rest in peace Charlie and congrats on a life well lived.

Charley played in my Link golf league back in the 80's. His golf partner was Bob, but I forget his last name as he is gone also. Charley was a very good golfer. Lots of good times
