Vern Burton Obituary

Vern RobertBurton Husband, Father, Mentor and Friend  OGDEN - This sweet, gentle man passed away Thursday morning, February 6, 2003, while in the loving arms of his wife and family. He was born in Layton, UT, Oct 11, 1925 to Robert Elias and Hazel Lythgoe Burton. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and received his Bachelor's degree in Ac-counting from Utah State University. On Jan 6, 1950 Vern married Margaret Russell. Vern and Margaret made their home in Clearfield where they raised four daughters and one son. Vern was very active in the community and had served as mayor of Clearfield and as Justice of the Peace. In the mid-60s, the family moved from Clearfield and lived in Roswell, NM and Atlanta, GA as Vern advanced his career as an executive in the Job Corp program. The family returned to Utah in 1970, and Vern became a vice president for Management Training Corporation in Ogden, UT. Vern retired from MTC a few years ago, after a long and successful career. Vern and Margaret were also very successful business owners of two motels in Astoria, OR, and for many years Vern was a partner with Dilworth Lyman in a successful tax accounting practice in Roy, UT. Vern was a loving family man of great honesty and integrity. Vern will always be remembered by those who loved him as a generous man with a wry sense of humor and a beautiful singing voice. Vern's favorite times were those spent with his family and friends singing, playing his ukulele, fishing and golfing. Vern was always happiest with his wife, children and grandchildren and will forever be loved by those whose lives he touched. Three years ago, Vern suffered a series of strokes, which left him partially paralyzed. Vern moved to Manor Care Convalescent Center, where the many loving nurses and staff members helped him with his rehabilitation. The family will be forever grateful to the staff of Manor Care for the kindness and love they extended to Vern and our family and the happiness they brought to Vern's life during this very difficult time. Surviving Vern are his wife, Margaret, South Ogden, UT; daughters, Kathy Eason (Jerry), Cedar City, UT, Denise Briggs, Riverdale, UT, Jean Kemp (Allen), South Ogden, UT, Julie Burton (Mark Dane), Hood River, OR; son, Joseph (Lisa), Roswell, GA; grandchildren, Yvette, Heather, Amy, Branden (Meagan), Ben, Zachary, Kate; and one brother, Jack (Noreen), Bountiful, UT. Goodbye, Dad. Don't worry...I'll be there for you, Mom, and the girls. Thank you for being the best father a man could ever wish for. I am going to miss you, but on those beautiful, happy days, when life is peaceful and good and a warm breeze tickles my face and makes me smile, I know that will be you saying "Hello, Mate".

God bless you, Dad. I love you.
