Frieda Jeanette Ludwig Atkinson "Jeanette Atkinson", wonderful beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend, passed away on April 12, 2018, surrounded by her family as they recited The Lord's Prayer. Jeanette was born September 14, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas. She attended Herff Elementary, Poe Junior High, and Brackenridge High School, where she was a Purple Jacket. She worked at USAA, where she earned a scholarship to attend Incarnate Word College. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in 1960 then obtained her master's degree in Adult Education from Incarnate Word University in 1999.

Jeanette married Harold Atkinson on August 12, 1967, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2017. She modeled for Ben Shaw Modeling Agency and then taught Home Economics at Rogers Junior High and English at Holmes High School until the birth of her daughter Johanna in 1972 and son James in 1975. She was an exceptional stay at home mother for 10 years before returning to teach English at Krueger Middle School and then Bradley Middle School. She retired in 2003. Family time was her favorite activity, and she was especially involved in the lives of her grandchildren. Jeanette was an excellent cook, loved to sew, host parties, attend the symphony, and vacation in Rockport. She sewed two trains for her daughter and then later her granddaughter for the Lutheran Coronation. She was a life-long Lutheran, being baptized, confirmed and married at Highland Park Lutheran Church.

Jeanette was a passionate volunteer and leader. She served as President, Vice President & Program Chair of the Texas A&M University San Antonio Mother's Club, President of the San Antonio Bar Auxiliary, President of the Business and Professional Women's Club (BP&W), Vice President of the San Antonio Symphony League, Program Chair & Adult Youth Leader for the Tuesday Musical Club, Sunday School/Vacation Bible School teacher for Shepherd King Lutheran Church, Day School Chairman/Christian Education Chairman/Vice President for St. John's Lutheran Church, Secretary & By-Laws Chairman for the San Antonio Art League, Vice President of the Northside Teachers Association, member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, board member of The Woman's Club, and member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Theta Beta chapter. She was also active in the Republican Party and campaigned for her husband during his run for state representative.

Jeanette was predeceased by her mother Frieda Johanna Rieger Ludwig, father Joseph Ludwig, brother Felix Ludwig, & his wife Martha. She is survived by her sister Wilma Ludwig Townsend, Jeanette's husband Harold O'Hanlon Atkinson, daughter Johanna Atkinson Christiansen & husband Brian, son James Joseph Atkinson & wife Megan, and grandchildren Sophia Jeanette Schramm Christiansen, Harold Victor Gustav Christiansen, Tessa Louise O'Hanlon Christiansen, Andrew Michael Atkinson and Julia Claire Atkinson, nephews Jodie Ludwig, Ricky Ludwig & wife Vickie, Jimmy Heck & wife Cathy, Doug Heck & wife Claire, nieces Linda Pawkett, Jeanette Ludwig and Karen Ludwig, and sister-in-law Thalia "Katie" Atkinson Heck & husband Bill and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation is Monday, April 30th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Porter Loring North, 2102 North Loop 1604, San Antonio, TX 78232 with funeral on Tuesday, May 1st at 10:00 am at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78258 with luncheon at Concordia following the service then interment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
