Charles Mullavey Obituary

Charles N. Mullavey

On February 23, 2015 Charles N. Mullavey went home to his Savior.

Chuck was born in Edmonds, Washington on November 27, 1929 to Charles V. and Mary Mullavey. His brother Johnny preceded him in death. Chuck graduated from Ballard High School in 1947 where he excelled academically and also in numerous sports. In his senior year he was nominated for Youth of the Year.

His skill as a halfback earned him a Scholarship to Stanford University where he played football for one year. A football injury brought him back home to the University of Washington where he earned a BA in business and then continued on to UW Law School.

He met the love of his life Marilyn Pitcher when they were in high school. They were married when he attended Law School. This June they would have celebrated their 65th anniversary.

During the 60 years Chuck practiced law in Ballard, which he believed was the best place on earth, they raised their four children Sherri (married to late Arne Gillam), Mike (Jackie), Vicki (Rick), and Doug (Lisa). He loved practicing law because he had a nature that enjoyed helping others. Today there are 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandkids, with two more on the way! All of the grandchildren have commented about the impact he has made on their lives because of his involvement and deep love for them.

Chuck was very involved with Bethany Community Church where he and Marilyn fellowshipped over 35 years. Throughout his life he was also very active with sports and was a member of Seattle Golf.

The legacy of such a man is hard to measure because both his human character and godliness were inspiring. The legacy Chuck has left his family and friends is one of being an example of putting God first in your life, being a man of integrity and honor, cherishing your family, and having a great work ethic. Dad will be greatly missed by his family.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 2:00 pm

at Bethany Community Church in Green Lake. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to a charity of your choice.

Over the years, Chuck Mullavey handled several legal matters for our family. We always appreciated his honest, prepared counsel, even temperament, and thoughtful, timely response to our questions and concerns. He always made us feel that we were his most important client. (We're sure all his clients felt the same.) His integrity and compassion were clearly evident in his professional and personal life. (Psalm 15:1-3).

Chuck Mullavey touched our lives with a deep faith, selfless generosity, a listening ear, compassion, intelligence, and empathy. One of the final acts of Chuck and Marilyn prior to his passing was to take another widow and me to his favorite restaurant, Canlis for dinner. I will always treasure that memory and so many countless others of this loving Godly man.

My deepest sympathy goes to the Mullavey family in your great loss. Chuck had clients from many generations and he was loved and well respected for his knowledge and concern.
I worked there as a receptionist for 12 1/2 years, along with Celeste Crowell, until I retired in 2005. Chuck often times talked about his faith in God. He was a true Ballardite!

Mr. Mullavey was our trusted family (and extended family) attorney for over 30 years. We saw him last year and remarked how he would be a difficult attorney to replace as he was kind hearted, smart, patient (with our sometimes difficult family), and caring. I thought about how great it was that he obviously enjoyed his job that he's had for so long. In one of the visits he told us about his wonderful family and how lucky he was. He gave me advice, in such a nice way, regarding how I might handle various family situations. He was special! My deepest sympathy to his family.

Chuck was a very kind man who helped my Mom and Dad make decisions that would ultimately affect me after my parents passing. I suspect that he did this for many others and I am sure each time he did it was with the same kind and caring compassion that he showed us. The Ballard Community has lost a wonderful man that made his mark in so many ways. My condolences to the family.

I had the opportunity to work with Chuck for eight years as his estate planning paralegal. His care and devotion for his clients was outstanding and they greatly admired him. Chuck's work ethic was second to none and his devotion to his family and his Christian faith was profound. He was truly a pilar of hope for many people and will be sorely missed.
