Patricia Dowd Obituary

Patricia Dowd

Patricia (Kirk) Dowd died on November 25, 2015 at the age of 92. Patty was born on October 11, 1923 to Cassius and Gertrude Kirk. She grew up in Bozeman, MT graduating from Gallatin High School. An accomplished trap shooter, Patty competed in the Grand American Trapshooting Tournament while in her teens. As a college student, Patty worked during the summer as a waitress at the Challenger Inn in Sun Valley, ID and on a cannery line in Waitsburg, WA. She graduated from Stanford University, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1945, and worked as a reporter for several Bay Area newspapers. Patty later worked in advertising at Pictsweet Co. in Mount Vernon, WA, where she met her husband Kelly Dowd, who was a production supervisor for Darigold. They later settled in Magnolia and raised four children. Patty worked to help others and serve her community. She volunteered at KING Call for Action (a community crisis line), the United Way of Seattle/King County, and made lunches for a homeless shelter. Patty was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish for over 50 years. She walked to daily Mass and sang in the choir. Patty enjoyed travelling, playing the piano, a game of bridge, attending the opera, symphony or ballet, but most of all her family and friends. Patty was predeceased by her husband Kelly, her three siblings and is survived by her four children (Terry, Jennifer, Patrick and Tara) and nine grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima, on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 10:00am.
