Nancy Morgan Raphael

Nancy Morgan Raphael, daughter of the late Dr. Thomas L. Morgan and Sybil Joyce Morgan was born January 31, 1928 in San Francisco, California. She attended the Piedmont Grammar and Piedmont High Schools after spending much of her earlier years in Paris, France with her family, including her brother, Thomas L. Morgan Jr. She graduated from UC Berkeley and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. While at Berkeley, she met and fell in love with Roy Raphael Jr., also attending UC Berkeley. They were married on August 5th, 1950. After frequent moves around the country, they eventually settled in Lafayette until 1985, when they moved to Anacortes, Washington to enjoy their retirement.
Nancy is survived by her husband Roy, and her 3 daughters, Ginger Raphael (Kirk Wayland), Janie (Michael Truesdell), and Nancy Lee (Jim Strickland). In addition she leaves behind her 4 grandchildren, David Buell (Allison), Christian Truesdell (Alicia), Tim Truesdell (Jackie) and Megan Buell Hogeboom (Bobby) as well as her great grandson Charlie.
Nancy quietly departed this life Monday, August 1, 2016 at Island Hospital in Anacortes, Washington, where she was very active in volunteer work for the visually impaired. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Thomas L. Morgan, Jr.
Nancy fought a heroic struggle with an early onset of blindness in her 50's, then a diagnosis of dementia several years ago. She dealt with these situations with her customary grace, class, and a monumental portion of bravery thrown in for good measure. She kept her sense of humor until the very end, leaving her loved ones with "Momisms" that will last for generations to come.
Nancy was a beautiful, talented, thoughtful, and caring woman who never gave up – and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
There will be a Celebration of life for family and friends in Anacortes, WA, at a later date. In lieu of donations, please share your love freely with and be grateful for your family and parents while you have them.
