John W. "Jack" Thomas

John W. "Jack" Thomas, age 81, late of Joliet, formerly of Lockport, passed away peacefully, Thursday July 31, 2014, at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Joliet, lifelong Lockport - Joliet area resident.

Employed by Apex Oil Company, Forest View, for 25 years retiring in 2003. A United States Coast Guard Veteran. Member of St. Joseph Church, Lockport. Owner and operator of Lockport Barge Cleaning Company for many years.

Jack was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceded in death by his wife, Loretta "Lori" (nee Adams) in 2008; parents, Edward and Margaret (nee Murphy); siblings, Marge (Harold) Schehr, Betty (Walt) Munch and Ed (Char) Thomas.

Survived by his adored children, Stephen (Chris Johnston), Michael (Toni), James (Evelyn) and John (Jessica) Thomas; cherished grandchildren, Janae and Jenna, Maggie and Kelly, James Jr., Barbra and Evan, Gabriella and Johnny; and a sister, Maureen (Donald) Kubinski. Numerous nephews, nieces and many dear friends also survive.

Services will be held Monday, August 4, 2014, at 9:30am in the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel, 1105 E. 9th St., Lockport, to St. Joseph Church, Lockport for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Interment Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery, Joliet. Visitation Sunday, August 3, 2014 from 2:00pm until 7:00pm.

I was on my way home in Lockport from work when I ran out of gas. Jack overheard me call my husband for help on the marine radio. Jack got on the radio and told me he was on his way with a can of gas. I've never forgotten his kindness.
