Albert Oplinger Obituary

ALBERT OPLINGER Albert M. "Bud" Oplinger, 92, of Lansdale, died Friday, September 23, 2011 at Luther Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hatboro. He was the husband of the late Betty L. (Bower) Oplinger, who died January 20, 2000. Born November 23, 1918 in Berwick, he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Mary A. (Robbins) Oplinger. Mr. Oplinger was employed as a Traffic Manager with FMC Corporation in Colmar for over 25 years. He then worked in Quality Control with Deltronic Labs in Chalfont for over 25 years, retiring at the age of 90. Early in life, he worked for several years at American Car and Foundry in Berwick. Bud served his country honorably in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a dedicated member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lansdale where he enjoyed singing in the choir and served on many committees over the years. He was active with the Montgomery Township Lions Club where he was a former president and the Montgomeryville Boy Scout Troop No. 399. Mr. Oplinger was a member of the Shiloh Lodge No. 558 F & AM and was Past High Priest of Royal Arch Chapter 301, both in Lansdale, and was affiliated with the Rajah Shrine in Reading and numerous other Masonic organizations. He was also an active member of East Penn Chapter No. 12 of the National Camping Travelers. Surviving is his son, Jon C. Oplinger and his wife, Janet, of Springhouse; three grandchildren, Brian Oplinger of Alexandria, VA, Ellen Oplinger of Philadelphia, and Grace Oplinger of Chicago; a sister, Dorothy Lechleitner of Reading; and his dear friend, Betty Lischke of Lansdale. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Jane Oplinger; and a sister, Ona Hill. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30AM Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Christ United Methodist Church, 1020 Valley Forge Road, Lansdale, PA 19446. Relatives and friends may call between 6 and 8PM Tuesday at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale. A second visitation will begin 9:30AM Wednesday at the church, where light refreshments will be served. Immediately following the funeral service, a private graveside service and burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, in Berwick. For those desiring, contributions may be made in Mr. Oplinger's memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children - Philadelphia, 3551 North Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140, or to Christ United Methodist Church, address above.
