Jens HANSEN Obituary

HANSEN, Jens Vilhelm It is with greatest sorrow that we announce Jens' passing on May 3, 2018 at Case Manor in Bobcaygeon, Ontario in his 79th year. He valiantly fought cancer for 6 years and in the past year, he endeavoured to combat the effects of a debilitating stroke. Son of the late Sigurd and Valborg Hansen, Jens was the beloved spouse of Heather Elizabeth Jenkinson of Bobcaygeon and formerly of Toronto. He was the loving father of Karen Frisk; grandfather of Helena, Rebecca, Hannah and Christopher; and the youngest sibling of Else, Niels, Bodil and the late Mette, all of Copenhagen, Denmark. He also leaves to mourn many close friends worldwide including those at his Magnolia Square condominium park in Largo, Florida. His exuberant personality will be sadly missed. After service in both the Danish and Canadian Air Force, Jens joined Air Canada in 1967 where he served as Captain on many different aircraft for many years until his retirement from the A340 in 1999. He loved that life. Jens was a very generous sponsor of a number of charities and was giving of his personal time as well. One of his many contributions included providing air passage, companionship and care for a young lady suffering from spinal paralysis to travel to China to benefit from Stem Cell Therapy. His recreation time was occupied by golf, boating and tennis. Cremation is to take place immediately and a Celebration of Jens' Life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice. After a fulfilling life and love of aviation, Captain Hansen took his final flight on Thursday, May 3, 2018.

It was always great to get together with Jens and Heather. Great hosts, fun times and lots of stories. As an amateur pilot I used to greatly enjoy listening to Jens tell of his various flying exploits both in the service and for Air Canada. He loved and cared for his pets and always was concerned for their well being. He fought a good battle against huge odds. Now you can take a well deserved rest Jens.

Whether in the air, at the helm of a boat, or standing on terra firma, Jens was always captain of his own destiny along with the destiny of so many others. He was a born leader who truly enjoyed the role. He had so many friends because he was interested in people and usually had their life stories within minutes of meeting.
Courageous in his life's work, not to mention once fighting the onset of a forest fire at Beaver Lake, he showed his bravery to the end when combating Cancer and then a Stroke.
Jens was so generous both with his time and at gift giving occasions. I'll never forget the set of basement stairs he gave me for Christmas one year for my reno's. And for someone who was initially completely unaware of anything to do with the building trades, Jens became as adept as any contractor while renovating many of his own homes and cottages.
Dearest Jens, I will always remember you with love and admiration.
Heather, I send you my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your beloved Jensie.
Sincerely, Kathryn

We have many great memories of time shared with Jens and Heather. He always attempted to live life to the full. Whether a lovely piece of chocolate, a newfound cheese on black bread or a walk on the beach on a sunny day, his enjoyment of small pleasures was infectious. He had a great sense of humour and could have us all giggling along with him when least expected.

Jens also enjoyed a good debate and discussion about what was happening in the world whether it was global politics and economics or closer to home. He fought his last battles with courage. He cared for and about Heather, his family but also his friends. We will miss him. Be at peace dear Jens.
Our thought are with you Heather. Love, David and Carol. May 28, 2018.

This photo is from one of the nicest and funniest trips I've had when I visited my father and Heather. My father was one of the funniest persons I`ve ever known. He was a very social man and he could talk to anyone and make them feel comfortable. He loved life and had no idea that his should end already. He was such a strong fighter. I'm very grateful that Ive inherited his positive frame of mind.
My thoughts go to Heather. I hope she will think of him remembering all the cheerful times they had together.
With Love,
Karen

I was very touched by the news of my uncle's passing. Growing up, Jens was simply my "Uncle Jet". Can your imagine having a fighter pilot for an uncle? My thoughts go out to Heather during these trying times.
