Carlton Leon Townsend of Rio Dell passed away on Monday, January 23, 2006, after a battle with cancer. He was 57 years old.
Born June 26, 1948, in Birmingham, Alabama, he was the son of Jimmy Leon and Eva Imogene Townsend. He came to Humboldt County in 1973.
Carl was employed in the logging industry, spending the last of his working days as a truck driver.
He his survived by his loving lifetime partner, Ruth Roan of Rio Dell; four sisters, Ruth Mederios of Arkansas, Ann Cochran of Alabama, Pauline Smalley and Christine Brown both of Santa Rosa; two children, Rita Townsend and Johnny Townsend; three step children, Lorraine Crandall, Ronald Sanchez and Helen Richards all of Rio Dell.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; two brothers, Clyde Townsend and Jesse Townsend; and one stepson, Silverio Sanchez.
Carl has numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of which he loved to spend his time with.
Arrangements are under the care of Goble’s Mortuary in Fortuna.
Services will be held at Goble’s on Monday, January 30, 2006, at 1:00 P.M. Viewing hours will begin at 8:00 A.M. A burial service will follow at Ferndale Cemetery.
