Dorothy Sousa Obituary

Dorothy L. Sousa Dorothy L. Sousa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, quietly left this world in the early morning hours on Wednesday June 18, 2014. She was born in Osage, Minnesota during The Great Depression, which she use to say was the reason for her lack of height. Her father told her "everything was less in the depression." Her entire life revolved around taking care of people and animals. Her family, husband and children, were the most important things to her. She is known for her compassion and love to all. After the many years of being a room mother, PTA member and chauffeuring her children around, she decided to join the Eureka Emblem Club. She became deeply involved with the club and was elected its president for the 1986-1987 term. She decided as long as she was going to be president, she would do the best possible job and it turned out that was the first year Eureka won an award for increased membership-it totally spurred the club on and the momentum continued for the next 16 years. She is an honorary life member and Past President. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband L. Abe Sousa, having just celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary last month (May 21, 2014). Her children: Robert and Wanda Sousa, Linda & James Barry, Michael & Maria Sousa and Judy Sousa, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Brothers and sisters (in Washington): Bonnie VanPutten, David Gilchrist, Bob Gilchrist, Sandy and Glen Webster. She is preceded in death by sons, James D. Manos and Edward L. Sousa, her parents, John Gilchrist and Margaret E. Davis. A memorial service will be held on Sunday June 29th 2:00pm at the Eureka Elks Lodge. At Dorothy's request, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Sequoia Humane Society. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com and click on obituaries.

Abe Sal and I were so sorry to have missed Dorothy's celebration of life. We had no idea she had passed. It seems I just saw her riding in your car and as always she blessed us with her beautiful warm smile, she will be missed by many.

I met you at my father's (Gene Lake) Celebration of Life event on June 15th. I wasn't aware your wife was ill. She sounded like a very sweet and caring lady that was admired by many and someone I would have liked to have known. Thinking of you and your family with thoughts and prayers.

Dorothy was the kindest, most thoughtful lady I have ever had the privilege of knowing. She loved her many pets and many others from the neighborhood. She took in Muffin and brought chicken and rice to Vern when he was sick. Thinking of you Abe. You made a great pair.
