Time goes by so quickly and while it´s been 5 years already, I still think about you and your talents and what an amazing gift you gave me in music. Miss ya and love ya brother!

Henry, you were the best guitar teacher a 13-year-old punk kid could ever have asked for. Our lessons were basically therapy sessions and I never forgot how lucky I was to spend that time with one of the greats. I was thinking of you and your generosity at Adirondack Strings this evening and re-found your obituary. Gone far too soon, old friend. I miss you.

Henry - I just learned this week. We've lost touch over the years. You helped me so much when I was younger: music, opportunity and life in general. Your character helped me think about who I wanted to become. I thank you for it. You are missed.

Henry, It's been 5 months since you passed and I just found out. An overwhelming sadness shrouds me and consumes me. Although we hadn't talked for many years, you always held a special place in my heart. You were a great friend and mentor to me when I just entered the music scene at only 16. I'll always remember our long conversations sometimes for hours, going to see you at Adirondack Strings - joking around - seeing Metallica with you on the Puppets tour. Visiting you at your apartment and all the great music that you created through the years which I still love to this day. I never thought I would have to say goodbye. I wish I could have spoken to you one last time.

Mrs. McFerran,
I've just learned that Herny had passed. It's with a heavy heart I write this. I'm so very sorry for the loss of Herny. I only met him a few times but what I knew was he was a sweet, talented , well loved man. May he and Sean be in heaven preforming their music together. God bless you and give you strength at this difficult time.

It was only recently that we learned of Henry's passing. Henry is largely responsible for the joy both of our sons experience as musicians. Henry's enthusiasm, patience, encouragement and limitless kindness touched many of the young people that he has taught over the years. He was not only an excellent musician but also a wonderful teacher who had an innate ability to reach each student in their area of musical interest. Henry had a gift and we are grateful that he shared that with our children. Please accept our deepest sympathy, it is very sad to think that Henry is no longer in this world.

Initially, Henry was like the big brother I never had, though eventually I caught up and he became one of my best friends. Our bands did shows together, I worked at Adirondack Strings(which only seemed logical as I spent so much time there anyway...)and we pretty much hung out constantly for years, having countless adventures. I'll never forget the good times. I miss ya, brother...

When I was 18 years old, I found my way to Adirondack Strings because I heard they had a guitar teacher. Henry was patient and knowledgeable and taught me the basics in short order. Years later, I brought my son there to learn and Henry became a mentor to him - teaching him in the style that he loved and taking him to his first Morbid Angel concert. Over the years, we stayed in touch, and I was so so sad to hear of Sean's passing and now Henry's. I feel so bad for their Mom and I hope that she may find comfort in knowing how many people Henry touched through the sharing of his talent for guitar and teaching. I am so sorry for your loss.

When I first moved here in 1988, you were so nice and helped me out alot when no one else was. You helped me get playing here and we played some great shows together. I always looked up to you, you always had a kind word and helpful advice. Your stories of touring with Thin Lizzy and so many other bands inspired and kept us smiling. I wish we spent more time together. I love you, always will. Rest easy. Time marches on, see you soon buddy.

Sometimes words cannot be found. I can still see you sitting at one of the first shows we ever played. God bless you, you sat through it all and said how much you enjoyed it lol. A true original who can never be replaced or copied. I am so glad to have known you. My sincerest condolences to your family and friends.

I was shocked to learn of both Sean and Henry's passing. Henry was a great friend and always had a nice smile and hug when I'd run into him at one of the local supermarkets. He taught our daughter to play guitar many years ago and I always enjoyed chatting with him when I visited Adirondack Strings. My heart breaks for his mother and the rest of the McFerran family. RIP Henry. Heaven is surely rockin' now!!! :(

My deepest condolences to the family. Henry was my guitar teacher, my friend but most importantly my mentor in music and life. If it wasn't for his positivity and his help to overcome my low self esteem issues in my teens, I wouldn't of learned to find myself, fight life's struggles, negativity and sadness without the guitar. You will be missed brother and I'll never forget the most important thing you taught me... playing my own music. Thank you Henry.

In high school, I felt close to Henry partly because we lived near each other. For me, it was always a joy to visit him at his home where he taught me a lot about German history. Of all the people I knew in high school, he was one of three people I wanted to keep in touch with after we graduated.
Diana, I wish I knew how to comfort you, especially now. Knw that in Heaven, you'll see your dear sons again.

Mrs. McFerran and family and friends:
I rode the bus to CBA with Henry and lived around the corner on Pinewood, growing up. Both Henry and Sean couldn't have been nicer guys. Friendly, humorous, knowledgeable. Henry was my son's first guitar teacher. Henry was also King of Sarcasm. The local music scene is absolutely reeling, and we can only imagine your pain right now. Please accept my family's sincere condolences, and know that we will only have good memories of Henry and Sean.

Henry my brother, I'm going to miss you man. My deepest condolences and heartfelt feelings to Henry's family. Henry didn't teach me guitar, because I can't play it, but he did teach me about music, rock and roll, metal, and gave me the inspiration to start my own band in West Albany. Being very close to vicinity, and working together at Star market on Wolf road, I have a lot of old memories and great experiences with Henry and Sean. it was always great to see China White and the two brothers on stage together. Rest in peace my friends. Love you.

My thoughts and prayers go to the McFerran family. I met Henry at Adirondack Strings, as I lived down the street and would catch the bus there. Henry offered to start me playing guitar for a few weeks to get me going for free, which really got me into it. I continued taking lessons for like the next 4 years, but hung out there daily when I wasnt taking lessons to learn as much as I could. Henry was always a voice of reason to me, a mentor, a friend and passed on his knowledge of music that I now pass on to my daughters. I will never forget going to see Henry play at QE2 when I was 13 or 14 and introducing me to so many people in the local music scene, which is now something that I have been a part of ever since that day. Amongst all the other great memories I have of him, this is one of my most precious because it truly shaped who I was as a man and got me through some of the darkest times in my life. For that, I will forever be grateful and I will cherish those memories and be sure to pass along his gift he was kind enough to share with me. Rest easy my friend, we love you.

Where do I begin. Henry was a legendary person. Those of you who were friends with him knew his compassion. Those of you who were taught guitar knew his knowledge and guidance. Those of you who worked in a band with him knew his drive and passion for music. Those of you who played any gig with him knew his sincerity. What made him legendary was the fact that even if you werent in a band with him, taking lessons, or gigging with him, you got all those characteristics too. Henry was legendary not only in the music scene, but legendary as a friend. Im a better man for knowing him, and I will miss him like you wont believe. I truly thought of him as a brother. I love ya Hen. Till we meet again, keep MAKIN METAL bro.

My thoughts and condolences go out to the entire McFerran Family. Henry was my guitar teacher, mentor, and friend. Saturday's were my favorite day because that was lesson day. I remember hanging around Adirondack strings hoping other students wouldn't show so I could get another! I also will cherish the life lessons in where we would just talk about things we've seen, how we handled it and maybe we could have done better...
You will be missed my friend and I will do my best to pass on the amazing gift of music that you were very patient in teaching me.

I only knew Henry for a few years, but he was always a nice, well thought guy. The world was a better place for having him in it. His instruction was amazing, and I've kept his notes for the past 20 years.
