Stephen Gibson Obituary

GIBSON Stephen Lawrence Gibson, age 7, went home to be with Jesus, his Savior, on September 9, 2014, following a courageous battle with a brain tumor. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends who loved him very much. Stephen's life would seem too short to many, but those whose lives were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His gentle smile could melt the hearts of those around him. Although Stephen's illness was difficult, he possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With his courage, he led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved going to church to learn about Jesus. He enjoyed going to school at First Baptist Academy and playing with his classmates. He loved the colors blue and red, building Legos, and playing Mario Galaxy on his Nintendo Wii U. With Stephen's passing, we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him everyday, especially his smile and precious brown eyes, we know we will see him again in heaven. We were able to create wonderful memories, and it has been a privilege to be his parents. Our greatest source of strength has been The Great Physician, Jesus, who comforts our hearts during this difficult time. We love and appreciate our family and friends who have been a tremendous source of strength and encouragement during Stephen's illness. We also have a special place in our hearts for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Nemours Children's Hospital, and Community PedsCare because of the care they provided Stephen. Stephen is survived by his loving parents, Philip and Jodi Gibson of Jacksonville, FL; sister Amy Gibson; paternal grandparents Ed and Bonnie Gibson of Orange Park, FL; maternal grandparents Larry & Mary B. Cail of Jasper, FL; Uncle Perry & Aunt Barb Gibson of Lynnwood, WA; Uncle Don & Aunt Beth Gibson of Jacksonville, FL; Uncle Adam & Aunt Amy Jacobs of Tallahassee, FL; Cousins Jonathan & Melody Gibson of New Westminster, BC; Cousins Joshua & Jackie Gibson of Duvall, WA; Cousin Janae Gibson and her daughter Jennie of Lynnwood, WA; Cousins Ashley Anne, John, and Zoe Gibson of Jacksonville, FL; Cousin Carter Jacobs of Tallahassee, FL; and dear family friends Cyrus & Julie Rainey and family. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. with the memorial service following at 4:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, 124 W. Ashley Street Jacksonville, FL 32202, in the main auditorium. A graveside service will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens at Trinity Baptist Church, 800 Hammond Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32221. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis Tennessee. Stephen was a very special little boy! He always had a smile on his face. He loved Jesus and shared prayers with his Sunday School class. We will miss him greatly. My prayers are with his family who showed great love and were an inspiration to me! In all your pain you continued to stand firm in God trusting Him so that He would be glorified. I pray God will ease your pain and give you strength and comfort in the days and months ahead. Our hearts are broken, but our souls rejoice. God bless you all!

Jodi and family, it saddened my heart to hear of your loss. But we must give God the honor for allowing him to brighten up your lives, if only for a little while. The joy of it all is to know that he is with our Lord and Saviour and that you shall meet him again.

Just know that you have my prayers and I know that we serve a wise and good God.

I stopped to read Stephen obituary, and although I didn't know him, I truly believe you were BLESSED to have had the joy of loving and
caring for GOD'S ANGEL until it was
time for him to go home.
May you find comfort in the
wonderful memories you will always carry with you.

Thanks for sharing his precious life with those of us who never got a chance to share in his life.

Stephen and my nephew Zion was very close friends. He talked about Stephen and prayed for him every night. He is going to miss him dearly and he was excited about inviting him to his birthday party at Chuckie Cheese. He was very protective of Stephen and every time he saw him he would hold his hand and tell him this is your friend Zion. I know this is a heartfelt time for the family but we know that he's in heaven with our Lord and Saviour.
