Nicholas Kardos Obituary

Nicholas J. "Nick" Kardos, 80, of Washington Township, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 8, 1936, in Dime, he was a son of the late Nicholas J. and Anna M. (Kromka) Kardos. Nick lived in Washington Township for his entire life and was a 1954 graduate of the former Washington Township High School. He served our country in the Army. Nick worked for 30 years as a pilot plant operator at Gulf Research, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Our Lady Of Joy Parish, Plum. Nick enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing, chopping wood, gardening and going to the family camp in Tionesta. He was a hard worker through all of his life and was known for being thrifty. He also was a collector of hats. In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul J. and Patrick Kardos. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce E. (Walters) Kardos; children, Thomas J. Kardos (Susan Klingensmith), of Apollo, Diana K. Bowser (Chris), of Finleyville, and John N. Kardos (Amy), of Dover, Ohio; grandchildren, Janelle Schnur (Matt), Krista Kardos (Zach), Nicholas Kardos (Jessi) and Christian and Madison Bowser; sisters, Elizabeth Plazio, of Cabot, Toni Remaley (Frank), of North Huntingdon, and Loretta Kardos, of Washington Township; brother, Joseph Kardos (Carol), of West Leechburg; sister-in-law, Juanita Kardos, of North Apollo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Nick's request, there will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at Our Lady of Joy Catholic Church, 2000 O'Block Road, Pittsburgh (Plum), PA 15239, Father Al Zapf as celebrant. At the convenience of the family, a private interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Nick's name to a charity of choice. Share condolence with the family at www.curranfuneralhome.com.

Joyce, I'm so sorry to hear of Nick's passing. He was such a joy and wonderful neighbor. Remember him scaring the daylights out of our Kathy one Halloween, she never forgot it. May GOD comfort you at this sad time of your loss.
