Glen Rosander Obituary

Aug. 1, 1950 - Oct. 12, 2010

Glen Rosander, beloved husband and father, passed away on October 12 after a long and valiant battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Glen was a "Renaissance Man" blessed with many talents. He grew up in Denver, Colorado raised by his loving parents Lois and Judge. He was on his high school gymnastics¹ team, sang in school musicals, and was a talented artist often creating hand drawn family portraits for local families. He also apprenticed under renowned sculptor Edgar Britton, and worked on some of his pieces at the University of Colorado. At 19 he received a commission to do a sculpture of Mount Rushmore for a life insurance building in South Dakota.

After completing the sculpture Glen took off for Southern California where he became a professional diver and took up skydiving. Glen returned to Colorado where he worked his way through the University of Colorado earning degrees in both Business and Environmental Design. He met his wife Judy while at college and was married in Chicago on the "Magnificent Mile." He serenaded both Judy and her parents at the wedding with such beautiful songs as "More" and "Sunrise Sunset." After a whirlwind honeymoon traveling to national parks, Lake Tahoe, and San Francisco, Glen and Judy moved out to Southern California where Glen began working as an architectural consultant. His two wonderful children Sonya and Bernard were born.

MS began to take its toll and Glen became increasingly paralyzed. Undaunted by his situation, he continued to be active trying to help other people. He was instrumental in the founding of Summer Fun Day Camp for handicapped children in Ventura County, promoted the MS read-a-thon program by going into classrooms to talk to students about the importance of reading, and worked at Peach Hill School as a volunteer in his son's classroom.

Glen continued to be a joyous person centered on the love of his family and his love of learning. He was a "happy warrior" who was admired for an against all odds positive attitude. His homemade Christmas cards brought joy and laughter while symbolizing the courage of a man who was defined by his character and not his circumstances. He will be sorely missed, but we all take comfort that he is whole again with God.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Kenzie Griffin for his amazing friendship. Your calls and visits meant everything to Glen. Glen's wife Judy would also like to thank Bruce Zander for his friendship and visits to Glen and especially for introducing her to Glen back in beautiful Boulder. Dr. Li, Dr. Shanta, and many other dedicated doctors worked over the years to give Glen more time and are greatly appreciated.

Glen's funeral will be Saturday, October 23, at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills in Burbank at 11 a.m. The service is graveside at the Lincoln Terrace.

Judy,
I have had the honor of working with Glen for the last 4 years. Just talking with him about the pictures on his memory board I could tell he had so many wonderful stories to tell. He did share stories such as, he sang at your wedding. He told me about other pictures and what they meant to him. I also will miss playing his 60's and 70's music and singing together. We didn't care if other people were around or if we looked silly. We were having fun and that's all that mattered. I truely miss him but I will always carry him close to my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Few people have influenced the way I view life than Glen. From the very first time I met him, he was upbeat, showed an unparalleled sense of creativity and desire to learn, and had a deep empathy and concern for people around him. Glen always wore a grin and welcomed everyone into his world. Few things are better than to have known and learned from our true friend.

My associations with Glen in high school and when we made music together are treasured memories.
I marveled at his grace and fortitude while living with the MS. Thanks be to God for Glen and all he gave to us.

Glen was my cousin. My family visited my Aunt Lois's quite often when we lived in Denver. I had a crush on him when I was young. He was always kind and fun. I wouldn't have known about his passing, if my second cousin, Archie Elliott, hadn't sent Glen's online obituary. I lost track of Glen for years, but my Mom and Lois wrote each other regularly, which kept me up-to-date on Glen and his family. Then about 10 years ago I realized the importance of keeping in touch with family and I got his address through my Mom. I have enjoyed receiving his fun and artistic Christmas cards. I remember Glen with fondness and look forward to seeing him in heaven for a family reunion. I pray God's comfort on his wife, Judy, his 2 children, and my Aunt Lois and Uncle Jud.

That is a wonderful obituary for an exceptional man. Glen was and is an inspiration to us. Early on, we saw his determination and incredible self discipline at his wedding to Judy when he flawlessly sang without a trace of nervousness. He was always positive and had a great sense of humor despite his prolonged bout with MS. He always upbeat, a terrific role model. We will always remember him with great love. Rick & Adrian Pruetz

A beautiful tribute to Glen, he was an amazing man and a wonderful uncle. His life was filled with more challenges than any one person should endure, but he always handle his adversity with grace and humor. I will always remember him fondly as a man of great character and quick wit. We love you Glen and hope you are in a better place now with no more suffering. All of our love goes out to the Rosander family in this time of mourning.
